Archwiliad o’r cae bore yfory / Pitch inspection tomorrow morning

Bydd y penderfyniad ynglyn ’r gm yn erbyn Bangor yn cael ei gymryd bore yfory yn dilyn archwiliad o’r cae am 9 o’r gloch.
“Roedd y cae wedi rhewi’n galed y pnawn ’ma ac wedyn cafwyd dipyn o eira hefyd. Nid yw’n edrych yn rhy dda. Bydd y penderfyniad yn cael ei wneud yn gynnar bore yfory,” meddai Phil Jones, cadeirydd y clwb heno.
Bydd y penderfyniad terfynol yn ymddangos ar y wefan yn syth ar l iddo ddod i law bore yfory.

A decision on whether tomorrow’s (Saturday) game against Bangor goes ahead will be made at 9 am tomorrow.
Chairman, Phil Jones, said tonight “The pitch was frozen hard this afternoon and then there was a fall of snow, so prospects do not look good. A decision will be made early tomorrow morning.”
The final decision will be posted on this website in the morning, as soon as it comes to hand.

Golwg ymlaen at ymweliad Bangor / Looking ahead to Bangor at the Traeth

Bangor Daw Nev Powell a’i dm i’r Traeth ddydd Sadwrn yn edrych am y dwbl dros Port. Ond bydd hefyd yn ymwybodol, ar l y perfformiad ar Ffordd Ffarar, nad mater hawdd ydy sicrhau buddugoliaeth. Pan yn siarad gyda’r Bangor Mail, ar l pedwerydd buddugoliaeth ei glwb, rhoddodd ganmoliaeth i Port gan ddweud, “Mae’n debyg mod i wedi fy mhlesio mwy gyda’r fuddugoliaeth hon na’r dair arall. Gwnaeth Port bywyd yn anodd iawn inni.”
Roedd Tomi Morgan hefyd yn barod iawn i ganmol ei dm -wrth yr Herald, “Welai ddim bai o gwbl ar yr ymdrech a gafwyd, a doedd wynebu Bangor ddim yn eu dychryn chwaith. Nid oedd fawr i ddewis rhwng y ddau dm dros y 90 munud, heblaw am rhoi’r bl yn y rhwyd -a hynny sy’n cyfri.”
Gyda ond 9 gl mewn 17 gm nid yw’n anodd dod o hyd i brif broblem Port, “Y drafferth mwyaf inni drwy’r tymor ydy taro cefn y rhwyd, a dyna sut y bu ddydd Sul,” oedd sylw Tomi. Felly yn y diwedd y gwahaniaeth rhwng y ddau dm oedd un chwaraewr, sef Jamie Reed a’i ddwy gl.
“Os allwn ni ail adrodd y perfformiad ddydd Sul, ond y tro yma cymryd ein cyfleoedd, allwn ni gael rhywbeth o’r gm,” meddai Tomi. Ac ar l gweld mor agos oedd y gm ddydd Sul nid sylw gor optimistaidd ydy hwn.
Bydd Port heb Paul Roberts sy’n dal wedi’i wahardd a bydd consyrn hefyd am ffitrwydd Ceri James wedi iddo adael y cae ar l awr ym Mangor. Ond bydd Marcus Orlik ar gael, ar l dychwelyd o Langefni. Gobeithio bydd yna dorf dda, awyrgylch dda a’r canlyniad iawn.

Nev Powell will bring his troops to the Traeth on Saturday looking for a holiday double over Port. But he will know, from the performance at Farrar Road, that Port are no easy touch, Talking to the Bangor Mail, after his club’s fourth straight win, he paid Port the compliment of saying, “I was probably more pleased with that win than the previous three. Porthmadog, to their credit, made it difficult for us.” Tomi Morgan also credits his team for their performance telling the Herald "I can’t fault the effort of the lads – they put 100% into it and certainly weren’t overawed by Bangor. There was nothing to choose between the sides over the 90 minutes apart from the finishing, but that’s what counts.”
With only 9 league goals in 17 games it is not difficult to identify Port’s problem "Our main problem all season has been hitting the back of the net and that was the case again on Sunday," remarked Tomi. So in the end the difference between the two sides, on Sunday, came down to just one player Jamie Reed and his two goals.
"If we can produce the same sort of performance on Saturday, but take our chances I think we can get something out of the game,” says Tomi and after watching the close contest at Farrar Road his comment is in no way over optimistic.
Again he will be without the suspended Paul Roberts and there must be concern about Ceri James who limped off after an hour at Bangor. However Marcus Orlik, who has now back from his spell at Llangefni, will be available. Let’s hope for a good crowd a good atmosphere and a good result.

Stefano Antoniazzi yn ymuno gyda CPD Bow Street / Stefano Antoniazzi joins Bow Street FC

Stefano Antoniazzi Mae’r cefnwr ifanc Stefano Antoniazzi wedi ymuno gyda CPD Bow Street, clwb sydd ar hyn o bryd yn 7fed yng Nghynghrair Spar y Canolbarth. Ymunodd Stefano Port o glwb Parc Maesteg yng Gynghrair Cymru( y de) yn yr haf ond ychydig o gyfleoedd a gafodd oherwydd cysondeb Euron Roberts yn safle’r cefnwr de. Yn ystod yr hydref cwblhaodd Stefano Farathon Berlin. Chwaraewr sy’n rhoi cant y cant ymdrech dymunwn pob llwyddiant iddo gyda’i glwb newydd.

Stefano Antoniazzi has joined Bow Street FC, a club who are currently 7th in the Spar Mid-Wales League. The young right back joined Porthmadog from Welsh League club Maesteg Park in the summer but found his opportunities limited due to the consistency of Euron Roberts who has been a regular in that position. During the autumn Stefano completed the Berlin Marathon. He is a player who gives a 100% effort and we wish him well with his new club.

Marcus yn l ar y Traeth / Marcus back at the Traeth

Marcus OrlikYn l y disgwyl mae Marcus Orlik yn mynd i ddychwelyd i’r Traeth yn ystod ffenestr drosglwyddo Ionawr. Ymunodd Llangefni ar ddechrau’r tymor hwn gyda’r bwriad o adennill ei ffitrwydd ar l torri dau asgwrn metatarsol o fewn blwyddyn ond bellach mae’n dychwelyd i Port. Yn ystod ei amser blaenorol gyda’r clwb chwaraeodd 46 (+9) o gemau gan sgorio 14 o goliau. Bydd y cefnogwyr yn siwr o rhoi croeso gwresog i’r chwaraewr canol cae/blaenwr sydd a sgiliau mor dda, ac yn hapus iawn i’w weld yn l ar y Traeth.

As expected Marcus Orlik will return to the Traeth in the January transfer window. He joined Llangefni at the start of the current season with a view to regaining fitness after two broken metatarsals within a year and now he returns to Porthmadog. In his 46 (+9) appearances for Port he has scored 14 goals. Supporters will give this skilful midfield/striker a warm welcome and will be delighted to see him back at the Traeth once more.

Yr Ail Dm ym mis Rhagfyr / Reserves December Round-up

Cynghrair Gwynedd League Y tywydd cafodd y oruchafiaeth dros rhaglen gemau yr Ail Dm yng Nghynghrair Gwynedd a Chwpan Barritt. Yn ystod yr 8 wythnos ddiwethaf dim ond un gm a chwaraewyd ganddynt, a honno yn fuddugoliaeth o 1-0 dros y myfyrwyr o Fangor gyda Mark Bridge yn sgorio’r unig gl ar l 16 munud i sicrhau y tri phwynt. Dilynwyd glaw mawr mis Tachwedd gyda rhew ac eira mis Rhagfyr gan ddinistrio’r rhestr gemau yn y gynghrair a’r gwpan. Ar 2 Ionawr bydd yr Ail Dm yn ymweld a’r Bontnewydd gan geisio setlo’u gm yng Nghwpan Barritt.

The weather has taken its toll on the Reserves programme in the Gwynedd League and the Barritt Cup. In the last 8 weeks they have only been able to play one game, a 1-0 win over the students of Bangor, with the goal by Mark Bridge after 16 minutes enough to secure the three points. The torrential rain of November gave way to the snow and ice of December and the fixture lists were decimated. On January 2nd the reserves will attempt to settle their Barritt Cup tie at Bontnewydd.

Rhagolwg: v Bangor / Preview: v Bangor

Bangor Bydd y tymor yn cyrraedd yr hanner ffordd ddydd Sul wrth i’r ddau glwb o Wynedd chwarae ei gilydd. Wrth bwyso a mesur y tymor hyd yma bydd Porthmadog yn gwybod bod rhaid codi pwyntiau yn rheolaidd os ydynt am wneud ymgais am le yn UGC y tymor nesaf.
Ar y llaw arall bydd Bangor, o ddal ymlaen gyda’r rhediad diweddar, yn disgwyl symud i fyny’r tabl yn sylweddol. Yn ystod y rhediad ddiweddar sgoriwyd 14 o goliau mewn tair gm sydd yn tanlinellu’r perygl i Port. Bydd rhaid amddiffyn mor gadarn ag y gwnaethant yn erbyn TNS.
Mae Tomi Morgan yn gwybod maint y dasg a dywedodd wrth Dave Jones o’r Herald, “Ar y funud mae Bangor ar rhediad arbennig ac felly rydym yn disgwyl gm anodd ddydd Sul. Ond byddwn yn barod i roi’r ymdrech gorau phosib.
Roedd Tomi yn hapus gyda’r perfformiad yn erbyn TNS, “Roedd yn berfformiad da yn erbyn tm da. Ond mae angen fwy o gysondeb. Dyna’r peth rhwystredig amdanom y tymor hwn.”
Bydd Port yn gobeithio fod Aden Shannon wedi gwella o’r anaf i’w ffr ac yn y garfan gyda Ryan Davies a Dan Pyrs, y ddau wedi colli’r gm yn erbyn TNS. Bydd Nev Powell yn sicr yn edrych am y pwyntiau llawn o’r gm, ond mae’n ddigon gofalus i ddweud, “Ni fydd yn hawdd yn erbyn Porthmadog sydd wedi curo Caerfyrddin a chael gm gyfartal yn erbyn TNS.”
Heblaw am y gm ar y Traeth y llynedd, agos iawn bu y rhan fwyaf o gemau rhwng y ddau yn y gorffennol. Edrychwn ymlaen am gm dda o flaen torf dda.

Sunday’s game between these two Gwynedd clubs represents the half way mark in the season and, as they take stock of the season so far, Porthmadog will know that they need pick up points on a regular basis if they are to mount a challenge for a place in next season’s revamped WPL.
Bangor on the other hand will feel that, if they can continue their recent form, a steady march up the table awaits them. Their recent form especially, in front of goal, with 14 goals in their last three outings clearly points to the danger for Port, whose defence will need to repeat the excellent showing against TNS.
Tomi Morgan is under no illusions about the task ahead, and told Dave Jones of the Herald, "At the moment Bangor City are running into some good form so we know it is going to be a tough game on Sunday. But we will go there and give it our best." But he was pleased with the TNS performance "It was a decent performance against a decent side. But we need to be more consistent in games. That has been the most frustrating thing about us this season."
Port will hope that striker Aden Shannon has recovered from his ankle ligament injury and that he will feature together with Ryan Davies and Dan Pyrs, who were unavailable for the TNS game.
Nev Powell will be looking for no less than maximum points but is wary enough to say " It’s going to be far from easy against Porthmadog, who have won at Carmarthen and drawn with TNS.”
Apart from last season’s game at the Traeth, games between the clubs are usually tight affairs so let’s hope for a good game in front of a bumper crowd.

Cynghrair i Ail Dimau UGC yn cael ei drafod / WPL Reserve League discussed

Mae clybiau UGC wedi cychwyn trafodaethau i lenwi’r gwagle a adawyd gan benderfyniad y Gymdeithas Bl-droed i wrthod i Ail-dimau fod yn rhan o’r Pyramid o ddechrau’r tymor nesaf. Yn eu cyfarfod diweddar yn y Drenewydd trafodwyd ffurfio Cynghrair Ail Dimau’r Uwchgynghrair, gan eu rannu’n ddaearyddol yn ddau grwp o chwech ac yn chwarae eu gilydd pedair gwaith mewn tymor 20 gm. Ond ni ddaeth y cyfarfod i unrhyw benderfyniad terfynnol.

Welsh Premier clubs have commenced discussions to find a format to fill the void created by the FAW decision to exclude reserve teams from the Pyramid from the start of next season. At their recent meeting in Newtown they discussed a Welsh Premier Reserve League which would be regionalised into two groups of six with each club playing each other four times producing a 20 game season. However no formal decision was reached.

Dyfodol llwm i sawl Academi? / Bleak future for many Academies?

Bydd adrefnu’r gynghrair yn gadael dyfodol sawl Academi llwyddiannus yn y fantol ar ddiwedd tymor 2010/11. Yn ogystal a ‘phenderfynu’ fod yna 44 o gemau i’w chwarae y tymor nesaf yn y 12 Disglair, cytunodd y cyfarfod yn y Drenewydd ar daliad unwaith am byth o 7,000 i Academi pob clwb fydd yn colli eu lle yn UGC. Ond ar l hynny ni fyddant yn derbyn unrhyw daliadau pellach. Ymysg rhai o’r rhain allai fod sawl Academi lwyddiannus iawn.
Mae’n eironi arall fod proses o adrefnu sydd fod i arwain at godi safonau yn mynd i dorri’r nifer i 10 Academi yn y pendraw. Golyga hyn na fydd nifer o chwaraewyr ifanc talentog yn derbyn hyfforddiant safonol a na fydd brwdfrydedd a sgiliau’r ifanc yn cael eu ddatblygu.

League re-organisation will leave the future of several successful Academies in the balance after season 2010/11. In addition to ‘deciding’ a 44 fixture structure for next season’s Super 12, the WPL meeting at Newtown agreed to a one off payment of 7,000 for the Academies of relegated clubs. But after this there will be no further funding. Amongst the clubs who could lose their Academy there could well be some of the league’s most successful Academies.
It is yet another irony that a restructuring process aimed at improving standards will eventually reduce the number of Academies to 10. Many talented youngsters will be denied expert coaching and the general skill levels and the enthusiasm of young players for the game will not be developed.

Trwydded Domestig -y diweddaraf / Domestic Licence Update

Ar ddydd Gwener 11 Rhagfyr ymwelodd Andrew Howard a David Miller ’r clwb i wneud Awdit ar gyfer y Drwydded Ddomestig. Ymwelodd y ddau ’r Traeth gan gyfarfod gyda swyddogion y clwb ac adolygu’r gwaith papur a’r tanadeiledd . Mae Porthmadog wedi gwneud cais am Drwydded Domestig a Thrwydded UEFA ac mae’r ddau yn derbyn awdit ar y cyd.
“Mae’ r clwb yn agos iawn at sicrhau Trwydded UEFA gan ein bod yn cael enwebu stadiwm arall fel y Drenewydd neu’r Rhyl ar gyfer unrhyw gemau yn Ewrop, a thrwy hyn osgoi problemau tanadeiledd” meddai ysgrifennydd y clwb, Gerallt Owen. Er mwyn gallu datrys y problemau tanadeiledd mae’r clwb yn aros am ganiatd cynllunio ar gyfer stiwdio ac eisteddle ychwanegol ar pen y Chwarel o’r cae. Mae swyddog cynllunio Cyngor Gwynedd wedi ymweld ’r safle ac mae’r clwb yn gobeithio derbyn y golau gwyrdd i symud ymlaen yn fuan iawn. Y gobaith yw cychwyn ar y gwaith, unwaith mae’r cyfarfodydd ynglyn ’r grantiau wedi’u cwblhau yn gynnar yn Ionawr. Mae’r clwb wedi codi 2,500 ac os wnaiff pethau fynd yn iawn bydd y cynllun ‘Noddi Sedd’ yn cychwyn yn y flwyddyn newydd ac yn ffordd i gefnogwyr helpu a chyfrannu at gost y gwaith.

On Friday 11 December the club was visited by FAW officials, Andrew Howard and David Miller who conducted a Domestic Licence Audit. They visited the Traeth and met with club officials to review paper work and check the stadium infrastructure. Porthmadog have applied for both the Domestic Licence and an UEFA Licence and they are being audited in tandem.
Club secretary, Gerallt Owen said, “The club seem very close to obtaining an UEFA Licence as we can nominate another stadium such as Newtown or Rhyl to play any European games and thereby avoid any infrastructure problems.” To be in a position to address infrastructure problems the club now await the planning green light for a studio and an extra stand at the Quarry end of the ground. A Gwynedd Council planning official has made a site visit and it is hoped that permission to proceed will be given very shortly. It is hoped that work can commence once meetings on grant aid have been held in early January. The club have raised 2,500 and if all goes to plan they will start a ‘Sponsor a Seat’ scheme in the New Year as a way in which supporters can further assist the club meet the costs of the scheme.

Rhagolwg: v Y Drenewydd / Preview: v Newtown

Y Drenewydd / Newtown Does na ddim gwell amser i ddod a record wael Port ar Barc Latham i ben na ddydd Sadwrn. Colli fu’r hanes ar dri o’r pedwar ymweliad diwethaf a chyfartal oedd y llall a honno yn nhymor 2006/07. Lwcus iawn fu Port i rhannu’r pwyntiau ar y Traeth yng ngm gyntaf y tymor hwn.
Ond mae’n debyg mai’r hyn a ddigwyddodd yn fwy diweddar fydd yn dylanwadu ar gm ddydd Sadwrn. Sut bydd y Robins yn ymateb i eiriau beirniadol eu rheolwr, a hynny’n gyhoeddus. Taranodd Darren Ryan, “Gall Ionawr ddim dod yn ddigon buan imi gan fydd rhai ohonyn nhw allan drwy’r drws. Mae’n ymddangos fod rhaid imi ddweud y drefn bob wythnos, Ar l edrych ar y gm heddiw dwi ddim yn mynd i ddal yn l, di bobl ddim yn ddigon da.”
Ar y llaw arall y cwestiwn i gefnogwyr Port ydy sut wnaiff eu clwb ddilyn y perfformiad ardderchog a gm gyfartal yn erbyn TNS? Gan fod y gm hon yn dod ar l tri perfformiad gwael mae’n amlwg mai anghysondeb yw’r prif broblem. I lwyddo, bydd angen amddiffyn yr un mor gadarn ac y gwnaed yn erbyn TNS gan fod y Drenewydd wedi sgorio 23 o goliau cynghrair y tymor hwn tra fod Port ond wedi sgorio ond 9 gl. Ond cyn ddydd Sadwrn bydd eu prif sgoriwr Obi Anuro ar ei ffordd yn l i glwb Wrecsam. Byddai buddugoliaeth yn rhoi Port ar yr un pwyntiau ’r clwb o’r Canolbarth tra fyddai colli yn agor bwlch o 6 phwynt.
Dywedodd Tomi Morgan wrth yr Herald, “Mae’n gm fawr, fel mae pob gm i ni bellach ac i’r Drenewydd hefyd, gan fod y ddau glwb yn ceisio dringo’r tabl a chyrraedd y 12 Disglair. Mae’r ddau glwb yn sylweddoli byddai un neu ddwy o fuddugoliaethau yn eu codi i fyny’r tabl a felly mae digon i frwydro amdano.”
Ewch i Coral i roi bet ar Drenewydd v Porthmadog.

There could be no better time to end Port’s poor record at Latham Park than next Saturday. Their last four visits have resulted in three defeats with a drawn game in season 2006/07. Newtown visited the Traeth for the first game of the current season and Port were very fortunate to share the points.
But Saturday’s game is likely to be influenced by more immediate events. How will the Robins react to their manager’s public outburst after last week’s defeat? Darren Ryan fumed, "January can't come quick enough for me because a few of them will be shown the door.It seems to me I'm having a go at them every week, I've looked at the game today and I'm not holding back any more, people aren't good enough.”
For Port supporters the question is how their team will follow their excellent home draw against TNS. As this game followed three sub-standard league performances it is clear that inconsistency is their enemy. Port to succeed will need to defend with the same resilience as they showed on Tuesday night as Newtown have netted 23 times in the league. Port, on the other hand, have found scoring difficult netting only 9 times. But Newtown’s leading scorer Obi Anuro has now been recalled by Wrexham. A win will bring Port level on points with Newtown while a defeat widens the gap to 6 points at a stroke, so this is a vital game for both clubs.
Tomi Morgan speaking to the Herald said, "It’s a big game, but they all are for us and Newtown, as they desperately want to climb the table and make it into the Super 12, and so do we. Both teams know a couple of wins can lift you up the table so there’s everything to play for."

Ymateb i’r 44 o gemau / Response to the 44 game programme

Castell-nedd - llanast llwyr / Neath - unprecedented disaster Dyma rhai o’r ymatebion a gafwyd yn dilyn y bleidlais o 9 i 6 o blaid 44 o gemau cynghrair yn 2010/11
“Ffwlbri llwyr. Dwi’n siomedig iawn gyda’r penderfyniad. Y peth pwysig i bwysleisio yw –does neb wedi ymgynghori gyda rheolwyr y gynghrair, does na neb wedi ymgynghori gyda chwaraewyr y gynghrair a does na neb wedi gofyn i’r cefnogwyr beth yw eu hymateb nhw. Cam yn l i bl-droed Cymru.” TOMI MORGAN yn siarad ar Radio Cymru.
“Er mai ond 52 wythnos sydd mewn blwyddyn, a byw mewn hinsawdd wlyb gyda’r un brif gynghrair yn Ewrop yn chwarae cymaint o gemau ’r mwyafrif yn cytuno ei fod yn syniad ofnadwy, mae UGC yn mynd i chwarae 44 o gemau y flwyddyn nesaf –methu aros! Bydd yn llanast llwyr a pan wnaiff ddigwydd bydd y wefan hon yn cyfeirio at y sylw hwn.” Gwefan swyddogol CASTELL NEDD.
“Yn answyddogol rwy’n amcangyfrif bydd yn costio o leiaf 12,000 yn ychwanegol i glwb Prestatyn i gystadlu yn y 12 Disglair y tymor nesaf. Seilir hyn ar leiafswm o 5 trip ychwanegol/aros dros nos yn y de, 3/4wythnos o gyflog ychwanegol, costau ychwanegol y swyddogion ac yn y blaen. Mewn cyfnod o ddirwasgiad a diweithdra mae’n anodd gofyn i gefnogwyr ffyddlon a noddwyr fynd yn ddyfnach i’w pocedi.” Gwefan swyddogol PRESTATYN.
Dywedodd y cyfarwyddwr rheolwr Dave Milner, “Teimlwn mai hwn ydy’r gorau o’r ddau opsiwn er ein bod am nodi ein bod yn teimlo y dylai’r gynghrair 10 clwb gychwyn y tymor nesaf. Roedd y cyfarfod yn fywiog ond yn bositif a bellach gallwn edrych ymlaen a chynllunio at y tymor.” Gwefan swyddogol Y RHYL.

Some of the reaction following the decision by 9 votes to 6 to play a 44 game league season in 2010/11.
“Utter nonsense! I’m very disappointed with the decision. The important thing to emphasise is that no one has consulted with the league managers; no one has consulted with the players in the league and no one has asked the supporters for their reaction. It is a backward step for the league.” TOMI MORGAN, speaking on Radio Cymru.
“Despite there being only 52 weeks in a year, living in a wet climate, not one other top league in Europe playing as many games and most people agreeing it’s a terrible idea, the WPL will play 44 league games next year-can’t wait! It will be an unprecedented disaster and this website will refer to this comment when it happens.” NEATH ATHLETIC official website
“I estimate unofficially it will cost Prestatyn Town an extra 12,000 at least to compete in Super 12 next term. This is based on a minimum of five extra coach trips/overnight stays down south, an extra 3/4 weeks wages, additional officials’ costs, etc. In a time of recession and high unemployment it is difficult to ask loyal supporters and sponsors at any club to dig deeper into their pockets.” PRESTATYN TOWN official website
“Managing Director, Dave Milner….. said," We feel that this is the best option of the two although we would point out that we still feel the 10 club League should have been starting next season. The meeting was very lively but also positive and we can now look forward and plan accordingly.” RHYL official website.

Rhagolwg: v TNS / Preview: v TNS

TNS Un peth sy’n sicr does yna byth amser da i chwarae TNS ond ar hyn o bryd mae’r clwb proffesiynol o Groesoswallt ar rhediad arbennig . Maent wedi llwyddo i rhwystro’r gwrthwynebwyr i sgorio yn eu naw gm ddiwethaf ac wedi colli ond un gm ers ddechrau’r tymor. Ychwanegwch at hyn fod Port yn brwydro yn y gwaelodion ac wedi methu sgorio yn eu tair gm ddiwethaf a gwelwn y mynydd sydd ganddynt i ddringo. Hefyd byddai tri phwynt yn symud y Seintiau i ben y tabl.
Ond er y gagendor sydd yn gwahanu’r ddau glwb roedd angen gl hwyr iawn arnynt i sicrhau pwynt ar y Traeth llynedd a chofier hefyd mai dim ond o un gl sicrhaodd y Seintiau y tri phwynt ar y ddau ymweliad blaenorol. Os ydy Port am achosi unrhyw fath o sioc nos Fawrth bydd angen yr un fath o ysbryd ac a ddangoswyd ar yr achlysuron yma, neu gwell fyth rhywbeth tebyg i’r fuddugoliaeth yng Nghwpan Cymru drwy ciciau o’r smotyn yn Tachwedd 2006. Amdani hogiau!

There is never a good time to play TNS but the Oswestry based professional outfit have been on an outstanding run of recent form. They have kept nine consecutive clean sheets and have been beaten only once all season. Couple that with the fact that Port have struggled all season, failing to score in their last three games, and then we see the mountain which they have to climb. A win will also take the Saints to the top of the table.
But despite the gulf in league positions TNS needed a late goal to equalize last season and on the previous two visits they took the 3 points by only a single goal margin. If Port are to cause any kind of surprise on Tuesday night then they will need more of the spirit which was shown on these occasions or better still something like the Welsh Cup win in a penalty shoot out in November 2006. 44 o gemau yn cael y golau gwyrdd / 44 game option gets the green light

UGC / WPL Mynd o blaid awgrym Bwrdd y Gynghrair o dymor gyda 44 o gemau gwnaeth y clybiau neithiwr, er gwaethaf eu amheuom ynglyn ’r costau teithio ychwanegol, cynydd yn y cyflogau oherwydd y tymor estynedig a’r traul ar y caeau. Dywedodd Gareth Jones, ysgrifennydd clwb Caerfyrddin, wrth Radio Cymru mae hwnnw oedd yr unig opsiwn gan nad oedd yna gynnig gwell ar gael, a hynny er fod ei glwb wedi pleidleisio yn erbyn.
Pleidleisiodd 9 o’r 16 clwb yn bresennol o blaid y cynnig am dymor 44 gm gyda 6 o blaid rhannu’r tymor yn ddwy rhan. Gwnaeth un clwb atal eu pleidlais.
Er fod y clybiau wedi gwrthwynebu’r cynnig o 15 i 3 yn Arolwg Sgorio, nid am y tro cyntaf, pleidleisio yn wahanol oedd yr hanes pan y tu fewn i’r ystafell gyfarfod.
Bydd Cwpan y Gynghrair yn troi yn gystadleuaeth ‘knock-out’.

The WPL clubs, despite their reservations due to extra travelling costs, increased wage bill resulting from an extended season and the potential effect on playing surfaces, have gone with the League Board recommendation of 44 fixtures for next season. Carmarthen Town secretary Gareth Jones, despite his club voting against the motion, told Radio Cymru that there was no real alternative to the 44 game proposition.
A vote of the sixteen clubs present resulted in nine clubs voting for a 44 game season and six for the split season. There was one abstention Though clubs had responded to the Sgorio Survey indicating opposition to the 44 game season by a majority of 15 to 3, not for the first time clubs have voted in a different way when inside the meeting room.
The League Cup will be played on a straight knock out basis.

Golwg ymlaen at gem Cei Conna / Look ahead to the Connah's Quay game

Cei Conna / Connah's Quay Gyda’r ddau glwb yn cael canlyniadau tra gwahanol dros y penwythnos diwethaf nid yw’n syndod fod Mark McGregor, rheolwr Cei Conna, yn targedu’r tri phwynt wrth ymweld ’r Traeth pnawn Sadwrn. Cafwyd buddugoliaeth dda dros y Drenewydd, yr un gyntaf ers guro Aberystwyth ar ddechrau Medi, a hyn yn dilyn gm gyfartal ddi-sgr ym Mangor.
Bydd Port ar y llaw arall yn edrych i wella’n sylweddol ar l y siom fawr yn Port Talbot. Dywedodd Tomi Morgan wrth yr Herald, “Mae cael rhywbeth o’r gm yn erbyn Cei Conna yn holl bwysig. Gyda’r clwb o Lannau Dyfrdwy dau safle yn uwch na ni byddai colli yn ein rhoi 7 pwynt y tu l iddyn nhw, a gallwn ni ddim fforddio gadael i hynny ddigwydd. Gyda gemau yn erbyn TNS a’r Drenewydd yn dod dros yr 8 diwrnod nesaf mae angen inni ennill pwyntiau.”
Mae’r tm rheoli, fel y cefnogwyr, yn methu deall y gwahaniaeth yn y perfformiadau ar l buddugoliaethau da dros Prestatyn a Chaerfyrddin. “Cawsom ddau berfformiad da ac yna dau o rhai gwael i'w dilyn –anghyson a dweud y lleiaf.” Oedd sylw Tomi Morgan.
Mae Port yn gobeithio gweld Aden Shannon yn l wedi i anaf ei gadw allan yn Port Talbot. Bydd rhaid aros hefyd i weld os ydy Mike Thompson wedi gwella, ar l brifo ei droed yn y gm honno.
Mae’r ddau glwb wedi cyfarfod yn barod y tymor hwn -yng Nghwpan y Gynghrair- gyda Port a Chei Conna yn hawlio buddugoliaeth yr un.
Ewch i Coral i roi bet ar Porthmadog v Cei Conna.

Given the different outcomes last weekend it is not surprising that Connah’s Quay manager Mark McGregor targets Saturday’s visit to the Traeth as a potential three points. A good Nomads victory over Newtown, their first win since they beat Aberystwyth at the beginning of September, followed the goalless draw at Bangor.
Port will be looking for a vast improvement from last Saturday’s huge disappointment at Port Talbot. Tomi Morgan told the Herald "It’s imperative we get something from the game against Connah’s Quay. They are two places above us, but to lose would put us seven points behind them which we cannot afford to let happen. With Newtown and TNS also coming up we’ll have three games in eight days and we need to pick up some points from them."
Management and supporters alike have been mystified by the change in fortunes which followed the excellent wins over Prestatyn and Carmarthen.
"We put in two excellent performances and followed them up with two poor performances – we’re inconsistent to say the least," said Tomi Morgan.
Port hope that Aden Shannon will be fit again after missing the game at Port Talbot. They will also wait and see whether Mike Thompson has recovered from the foot injury which forced him off last Saturday. The clubs have already met twice -in League Cup- this season with the home side winning on each occasion.

Cynhebrwng George McGowan / George McGowan’s Funeral

George McGowan Cynhaliwyd cynhebrwng George McGowan, yn Eglwys y Plwyf, Wrecsam ar y 4 Rhagfyr. Roedd yn gyn hyfforddwr Wrecsam a chwaraeodd hefyd i Borthmadog yn yr 1970au.
Roedd Roly Evans, un o hoelion wyth y Traeth o’r un cyfnod a George, ymysg y gynulleidfa niferus, “Roedd yr eglwys yn orlawn” meddai “a’r achlysur yn llawn teimlad. Er gwaethaf y tristwch roedd yna hiwmor drwy’r cyfan, yn union fel byddai George wedi dymuno.”
Gyda Roly yn y gwasanaeth roedd Ted Turner a chyn reolwr Porthmadog, Sid Jones. Bydd cefnogwyr Port sydd yn dal i gofio blynyddoedd llwyddiannus yr 1970au diddordeb mewn gwybod fod Jimmy Grummett, un arall o gyn chwaraewyr Port, hefyd yn bresennol. Meddai Roly amdano, “Sid Jones wnaeth arwyddo Jimmy o Witton Albion a bu’n chwarae cynt i Lincoln, Aldershot a Rochdale.
“Roedd yn edrych yn ddigon ffit i fod yn dal i chwarae!,” meddai Roly amdano. “Teithiodd yr holl ffordd o Doncaster i dalu’r gymwynas olaf i George. Mae’n dal i gadw mewn cysylltiad gyda phl-droed ym Mhorthmadog, drwy’r wefan, ac mae’n anfon ei ddymuniadau gorau at bawb yn y clwb.”
Mae Roly yn anfon ei gofion at bawb hefyd, a diolch iddo am gadw mewn cysylltiad, ac am ei ddiddordeb cyson. Mae pawb yn gwerthfawrogi ei gyfraniadau.

The funeral of George McGowan, former Wrexham coach and a Porthmadog player of the 1970s took place at Wrexham Parish Church on Friday 4 December.
Roly Evans, former Port stalwart of the same era as George, was among those present and says “The Parish Church was full to capacity on what was an overwhelming occasion. Despite the sadness, humour prevailed throughout, just as George would have wanted it.”
Roly was accompanied at the service by Ted Turner and former Porthmadog manager Sid Jones. Port supporters, who recall the glory days of the 1970s, will be interested to know that another former Port player present was Jimmy Grummett. Roly reminds us, “Jimmy was signed by Sid Jones from Witton Albion and he had also played for Lincoln, Aldershot and Rochdale.”
Roly says of Jimmy “He looked fit enough to still be playing now! He had travelled all the way from Doncaster to pay his final respects to George. Jimmy still keeps in touch with Porthmadog via the net and sends his best wishes to the club.” Roly also sends his best wishes to all at the club and we would like to thank him for keeping in touch, for his continued interest and his much appreciated contributions to the website.

Clybiau’n cael traed oer am y 10 Disglair? / Clubs get cold feet over Super 10?

S4C Mae gan arolwg ‘Sgorio,’ i agweddau clybiau UGC at y newidiadau i strwythur y gynghrair, y potensial i daflu holl syniad y Deg Disglair i ddryswch llwyr. Nid yw’r ymateb i’r cwestiwn: “Ydy’r clwb o blaid tymor o 44 o gemau?” gyda ond 3 o blaid a 15 yn erbyn, yn fawr o syndod. Ond problem tymor byr ydy honno.
Llawer iawn mwy difrifol ydy’r ymateb i’r cwestiwn “Sawl clwb fyddai’n ddelfrydol?” Mae’r atebion yn dangos dyfnder yr ansicrwydd sy’n bodoli ynglyn a’r holl syniad. Erbyn hyn dim ond 4 clwb sydd yn ffafrio cynghrair o 10 clwb gyda ond 2 arall dros gynghrair 12 clwb. Mae’r grwp mwyaf o glybiau -sef 8- o blaid torri’r gynghrair i 16 clwb tra fod 4 clwb am weld y gynghrair yn aros gyda 18 clwb.
Gofyn mae’r trydydd gwestiwn “Ydy cwtogi’r nifer o glybiau o fudd i’r gynghrair? O fwyafrif o 10 i 8 mae’r clybiau yn dweud na fyddai’r gynghrair yn elwa o’r newid. Yn wyneb yr atebion yma a fydd y clybiau yn cael eu temtio, pan yn cyfarfod yn y Drenewydd ddydd Iau, i alw digon ar yr holl syniad? Gyda’r fath gefnogaeth llugoer a fyddai’n benderfyniad cyfrifol i fwrw ’mlaen ’r cynllun?
Dros y 12 mis diwethaf mae’r mwyafrif llethol o glybiau wedi bod yn amharod i drafod yr adrefnu yn llawn ac yn agored -gyda rhai yn wrthwynebus wrth siarad ’r cyfryngau ond yn dawedog yn y cyfarfodydd swyddogol. Methodd cynnig Porthmadog i ail agor y drafodaeth ddenu eilydd yn l yn yr haf! Gobeithio fydd yna siarad plaen ddydd Iau gyda blaenoriaeth i’r hyn sydd orau i bl-droed Cymru, ac nid ceisio rhyw fanteision ariannol posib i glybiau unigol ar draul y gweddill. Mae’n rhaid i’r rhai mewn awdurdod dderbyn y cyfrifoldeb am y smonach oherwydd y ffordd flr maent wedi ymdrin ’r holl bwnc. Cliciwch yma i weld y stori ar wefan Sgorio.

The results of a ‘Sgorio’ survey, into WPL club attitudes to proposed league re-organisation, have the potential to throw the whole Super 10 concept into disarray. The responses to the question “Is the club in favour of a 44 match league season?” do not perhaps come as a surprise with only 3 in favour and 15 against.
That however is a short term problem; far more serious is the response to the question “How many clubs do you consider an ideal league size?” This shows that widespread doubt exists regarding the whole concept. Only 4 clubs are now in favour of a 10 club solution with another 2 favouring a 12 club league. The largest group of clubs -8- came out in favour of a 16 club league with 4 wishing things to remain as they are at 18.
The third question in the survey asks “Will reducing the number of clubs benefit the league? By a majority of 10 to 8, the clubs say that it will not benefit the league. In view of such responses will the WPL clubs when they meet on Thursday at Newtown be tempted to veto the whole concept? With such lukewarm support will it be responsible to proceed?
Most clubs over the past 12 months have baulked at a full and free discussion of league re-organisation, speaking against in the media while go along with change at official meetings! Porthmadog’s proposal to re-open discussion failed even to get a seconder and therefore fell. Let’s hope that we get some plain speaking on Thursday with what is best for Welsh football taking a front seat rather than manoeuvring to gain some potential financial advantage at the expense of others. The ham fisted handling of the proposed re-organisation by those in authority must take much of the blame for this situation.Click here to see the story on the Sgorio website.

Ail Dm ym mis Tachwedd / Reserves November Round-up

Cynghrair Gwynedd League Y glaw oedd yn fuddugol ym mis Tachwedd gyda pob un o gemau’r Ail Dm yn cael eu gohirio. Y gm gynghrair adref yn erbyn Bodedern oedd y cyntaf i’w gohirio oherwydd y glaw mawr, gyda’r ymweliad a Chaergybi yn dilyn. Gohiriwyd y ddwy gm, Cynghrair Gwynedd a Chwpan Barritt, yn y Bontnewydd hefyd. Mae’r gm gwpan Barritt wedi’i hadrefnu ar gyfer Sadwrn, 2 Ionawr.

November proved a complete washout for the Reserves with no games played. The home league game against Bodedern was the first to fall foul of the atrocious November weather. This was followed by the postponement of an away league game at Holyhead. They were also due to visit Bontnewydd for a Gwynedd League game and later a Barritt Cup tie but the story was the same again on both occasions. The Barritt Cup tie is now to be played on Saturday, 2 January.

Rhagolwg: v Port Talbot / Preview: v Port Talbot

Bydd llawer yn synnu wrth sylweddoli fod Port wedi curo Port Talbot dair gwaith yn eu pum ymweliad diwethaf a Stadiwm GenQuip gan golli’r ddwy arall. Llynedd cafwyd buddugoliaeth o 3-1 gyda Steve Kehoe yn sgorio dwy gl gofiadwy. Honno oedd gm olaf rheolwr Port Talbot, Nicky Tucker, gyda Mark Jones yn cymryd yr awenau.
Ar hyn o bryd mae’r clwb yn y 5ed safle ac yn bygwth y tri mawr sydd wedi bod ar y brig ers nifer o dymhorau. Mae’r clwb o’r de ar rhediad da, hefyd, ac yn anelu at eu 5ed buddugoliaeth gynghrair yn olynol. Ei prif sgoriwr hyd yma ydy Liam McCreesh (gyda 7 gl gynghrair) ond fydd McCreesh yn colli’r gm ddydd Sadwrn oherwydd gwaharddiad. Martin Rose oedd y prif sgoriwr llynedd ac yn flaenwr peryglus iawn. Chwaraewr allweddol arall ydy Neil Thomas, a chwaraeodd i Borthmadog am gyfnod byr yn 2005/06, tra yn y cefn mae Matthew Rees yn brofiadol iawn gyda Lee Kendall yn y gl.
Yn dilyn buddugoliaethau da, dros Prestatyn a Chaerfyrddin, roedd y perfformiad yn erbyn Airbus yn siom i Tomi Morgan. Ond er y pwysau mawr roedd yr amddiffyn yn gadarn ’r unig gl yn un eithaf bisr. Ddydd Sadwrn bydd y chwaraewr allweddol Ceri James yn l wedi gwaharddiad ac efallai, os bydd Keegan wedi gwella o salwch, gaiff Tomi y pleser o ddewis o garfan gyflawn.

It might come as a surprise to some, but on their last five visits to the GenQuip Stadium Porthmadog have won three times, losing twice and there have been no draws. Last season’s visit resulted in a 3-1 win for Port with two memorable strikes by Steve Kehoe. That game proved to be Nigel Tucker’s last game in charge of Port Talbot with Mark Jones replacing him as manager.
This season they are currently in 5th place and are threatening the big three who have dominated the WPL over recent seasons. They have been in excellent recent form and go into this game looking for their 5th straight league victory. Their leading scorer this season is Liam McCreesh, with 7 league goals, but he will miss Saturday’s game through suspension. Martin Rose was last season’s leading scorer and he remains one of the WPL’s most dangerous strikers. Another key Port Talbot player is Neil Thomas who appeared briefly for Porthmadog in 2005/06 while at the back they have the experienced Matthew Rees at the heart of the defence and former Rhyl keeper Lee Kendall.
After gaining two consecutive wins against Prestatyn and Carmarthen, last Saturday’s performance against Airbus left manager Tomi Morgan disappointed. But defensively, despite the heavy bombardment, Port coped well and only went down to a freak goal. Saturday will see the return of key midfielder Ceri James, following a one match suspension, and, if Keegan recovers from an infection, Tomi may well have the rare luxury of selecting from a full squad.

44 o gemau cynghrair blwyddyn nesaf ? / 44 league games next season?

UGC / WPL Mae taith y 12 Disglair i fodolaeth yn dilyn llwybr anwastad iawn. Y storm ddiweddaraf i daro ydy honno ynglyn ’r nifer o gemau fydd yn cael eu chwarae y tymor nesaf. Ai y 12 tm yn chwarae eu gilydd 4 gwaith yn rhoi cyfanswm o 44 o gemau –gyda gemau cwpan yn cynyddu’r nifer at yn agos i 60 o gemau? Dyma mae’n ymddangos ydy’r ateb sydd yn cael ei ffafrio gan Fwrdd y Gynghrair.
Cynnig John Deakin yw rhannu’r tymor, gyda’r 12 clwb yn chwarae eu gilydd ddwywaith cyn rhannu’n ddau ’r 6 uchaf yn chwarae eu gilydd ddwywaith ac yr un fath i’r 6 isaf. Golyga hyn rhaglen o 32 o gemau cynghrair. Gall rhannu’r tymor fod yn llawer mwy na ateb dros dro ond pam mae Ysgrifennydd y Gynghrair wedi bod mor hwyr yn ei gyflwyno fel posibilrwydd?
Gan nad yw cynghrair dwy adran yn bosibl pam na ystyriwyd rhannu’r tymor, fel dewis posib, llawer iawn ynghynt? Cafodd rhannu’r tymor ei gynnig gan gyfrannwr i’r wefan hon beth amser yn l ‘Y Deg Disglair: Oes yna ddewis arall?’ Mae’n siwr fod Tomi Morgan yn iawn pan awgrymodd i Radio Cymru, yn l ym mis Awst, fod yna ddiffyg ymchwilio wedi bod gan y Bwrdd cyn gwneud y cynnig gwreiddiol.
Gallai rhannu’r tymor fod yn ateb i 18 clwb hefyd gyda bob clwb yn chwarae eu gilydd unwaith cyn rhannu’n ddwy a chwarae eu gilydd ddwywaith gan rhoi cyfanswm o 33 o gemau.
Mae’r ateb 10/12 clwb yn rhy simplistig ac yn gadael pl-droed yng Nghymru gyda rhy ychydig o glybiau ar y lefel yma. Mae rhannu’r tymor yn cynnig cyfaddawd. Mae’n syndod na chafodd ei gynnig yn llawer cynt yn y broses.

The Super 12 continues its rather rocky road into being. The latest storm concerns the number of matches that will have to be played next season. Will it be each team playing each other four times giving a total of 44 games -with cup matches increasing the final total to nearer 60 games? This appears to be the favoured solution of a majority of the League Board.
John Deakin has suggested a split season solution which would mean all 12 clubs playing each other twice followed by a split with the top six playing each other twice and similarly the bottom six. This would mean a league programme of 32 games. The split season can offer more than a short term solution but why has the League Secretary taken so long to introduce it as a possibility?
With the two division league proving a non-starter should not the split season have been considered as an alternative solution at a far earlier stage? It was suggested by a contributor to this website ‘Super 10: Is there an alternative?’ quite a time ago. Maybe Tomi Morgan was right when he suggested to Radio Cymru back in August that the original Board proposal had not been well researched.
A split season could be applied to all 18 WPL clubs with each team playing each other once and then splitting into two sections with each club playing each other twice. This would give us a feasible alternative to the two divisions in a 33 match programme.
A simplistic 10/12 club solution is too restrictive and leaves Welsh Football with too few clubs at this level. The split season offers a useful compromise. It is surprising that it has not been given consideration at a far earlier stage.

Tomi yn canmol gwaith y tirmyn / Tomi praises the work of club ground staff

Phil Jones Mae’r tywydd difrifol dros y mis diwethaf yn golygu fod rl y tirmyn sydd yn gofalu am gaeau clybiau pl-droed wedi derbyn proffil uwch na arferir rhoi i’r gwirfoddolwyr allweddol yma.
Gyda cwestiynau unwaith eto yn cael eu gofyn ynglyn a safon rhai caeau yn UGC rhoddodd Tomi Morgan, yn ei nodiadau yn y rhaglen cyn gm Airbus, ganmoliaeth uchel i safon y Traeth. Dywedodd, “Gyda glaw di-baid yn creu hafoc i’r calendr chwaraeon mae un peth yn sicr bydd y gm hon (yn erbyn Airbus) yn mynd yn ei blaen gan fod gennym un o’r wynebau chwarae gorau yn y gynghrair diolch i Phil (y cadeirydd Phil Jones) a’i staff.” Wedyn wrth edrych yn l i gm yr wythnos ddiwethaf, yng Nghaerfyrddin, rhoddodd Tomi air da i dirmon Parc y Waundew hefyd, “ Diolch iddo fe aeth y gm yn ei blaen. Roedd pawb yn meddwl byddai’r daith i’r de yn ofer gan fod y nefoedd wedi agor drwy’r bore.” Ychwanegodd, “Roedd ganddo hefyd dipyn o dasg yn dod a’r cae yn l i drefn ar l iddo dorri i fyny yn ddrwg yn ystod y gm.”
Mae’n bwysig cofio mai tirmyn rhan amser ydy rhain, ac fel arfer yn wirfoddolwyr. Gyda’r 12 Disglair yn paratoi i chwarae 44 o gemau y tymor nesaf dywedodd cynrychiolydd o Brestatyn wrth y Daily Post “bydd yna draul ar y caeau” gyda ond “ychydig iawn o amser rhwng gemau i baratoi’r cae” yn gonsyrn. Roedd y cynrychiolydd hefyd yn atgoffa’r awdurdodau fod Prestatyn (fel y mwyafrif o glybiau UGC) “ .. yn cael eu cynnal gan wirfoddolwyr a oedd yn barod yn rhoi oriau o waith. Byddai gofyn iddynt roi 25% ychwanegol ddim yn realistig ac yn amhosib i’w weithredu. Os ydy’r UGC/FAW am hyn bydd yn rhaid iddynt ystyried rhoi cymhorthdal neu yn wir talu am y tirmyn.”

Y Traeth mewn cyflwr gwych / The Traeth in excellent condition The atrocious weather of the past month has meant that the role of WPL club ground staffs has been given a higher profile than these key volunteers are usually given.
With questions also once more being raised in some quarters regarding the standard of some WPL pitches Tomi Morgan, in his programme notes prior to the Airbus game, praised the quality of the playing surface at the Traeth. He said “With the incessant rain creating havoc with the sporting calendar one thing is sure that this game (v Airbus) will go ahead as we have one of the best kept playing surfaces in the league thanks to Phil (chairman Phil Jones) and his ground staff.” Looking back to last week’s game at Carmarthen, Tomi also put a good word in for the Richmond Park groundsman, “Credit to him for getting the game played in the first place because we all thought that our journey south was going to be in vain as the heavens opened all morning.” Adding, “He (also) had an almighty job on his hands getting it back into shape after it cut up so badly.”
It is important to remember that these all important people are part-timers and usually volunteers. With the Super 12 set to go with a 44 match league programme a Prestatyn spokesman told the Daily Post that the “…wear on the playing surface” together with “…..very little time to prepare the pitch between matches” was a concern, reminding those in authority that they (like most WPL clubs) are “… run by volunteers who give up huge amounts of time already. To ask them to give up 25% more is unrealistic and unworkable. If the WPL/FAW want this they should look at subsidising or indeed paying for …. ground staff at clubs.”
