Cwpan Loosemore – y diweddaraf / Loosemore Cup update

LoosemoreEr y golled siomedig yn erbyn Bangor yn ystod yr wythnos, fe all Porthmadog gyrraedd y rownd nesaf ond iddynt guro Caernarfon ar yr Ofal ar 18 Hydref ac i Fangor fethu curo Rhyl ar yr un noson. Er eu bod wedi llithro i’r safle gwaelod, mae ganddynt wahaniaeth goliau gwell. Mae Y Rhyl eisoes wedi sicrhau eu lle yn y rownd nesaf fel enillwyr y grŵp.

Y Rhyl 10pt (GG 6)
Bangor 7pt (GG -2)
Caernarfon 6pt (GG -4)
Porthmadog 5pt (GG 0)

Despite the disappointing defeat against Bangor this week, Porthmadog can still qualify for the knock-out stage if they win at the Oval against Caernarfon on October 18th and Bangor also fail to beat Rhyl. Though they have slipped to the bottom of the group, Porthmadog have a better goal difference. Rhyl have already ensured their place in the next round as group winners.

Ail Dîm ym mis Medi / Reserves in September

Chwaraewyd pedair gêm yn ystod mis Medi, tair o gemau cynghrair ac un gêm gwpan sef Cwpan Iau Arfordir y Gogledd. Cafwyd dwy fuddugoliaeth dda yn y gynghrair gydag un golled wael yn y canol. Curwyd Dyffryn Nantlle, y tîm ar ben y gynghrair, 2-1. Hwn oedd y tro cyntaf i’r tîm o Benygroes golli y tymor hwn. Sgoriodd Mark Cook gôl gynnar i Borthmadog a sicrhaodd gôl wych o 30 llath gan Ywain Gwynedd y fuddugoliaeth. Dilynwyd hyn gyda perfformiad siomedig yn Amlwch gydag absenoldeb golwr rheolaidd yn rhannol i gyfri am y golled o 5-0. Cafwyd dipyn gwell perfformiad yn ôl ar Y Traeth yn erbyn Bermo gyda Port yn llawn haeddu’r fuddugoliaeth o 4-1. Dangoswyd y problemau gyda dyfarnwyr sydd yn bodoli yng Nghynghrair Gwynedd yn y gêm hon. Ni ymddangosodd y dyfarnwr ac, o ganlyniad, ni gychwynnodd y gêm tan wyth o’r gloch. Yn y gêm gwpan, croesawyd ail dîm Blaenau Ffestiniog gyda Porthmadog yn sicrhau lle yn y rownd nesaf gyda buddugoliaeth o 5-3. Roedd pump sgoriwr gwahanol –Mark Cook, Geraint Mitchell, Steve Jones, Iestyn Woolway a Mark Bridge. Yn ystod y mis, ymddangosodd dau o hogiau’r ail dîm i’r tîm cyntaf sef Iwan Williams a Mark Cook gyda Mark yn sgorio ei gôl gyntaf i’r tîm cyntaf yn erbyn Bangor.

The reserves have played four matches during September, three league games followed by a NWC Junior Cup tie. The league games resulted in two good wins against Nantlle Vale and Barmouth and Dyffryn and, in between, a heavy defeat at Amlwch. The 2-1 defeat of league leaders Nantlle was the first loss suffered by the Penygroes club during the season. An early goal by Mark Cook was followed by Ywain Gwynedd’s winner -a 30yard supershot. This was followed by a disappointing away performance at Amlwch with the lack of a regular keeper being a major factor in the 5-0 drubbing. They however regained their form for the visit of Barmouth to the Traeth running out worthy winners by a 4-1 margin. This game highlighted the Gwynedd League’s refereeing problems when the scheduled official did not put in an appearance. By the time a replacement official was found the game, which was due to commence at 6.30 pm, eventually started at 8pm! In the Junior Cup tie, Porthmadog entertained Blaenau Ffestiniog Reserves gaining entry to the next round thanks to a 5-3 victory. There were five different scorers- Mark Cook, Geraint Mitchell, Steve Jones, Iestyn Woolway and Mark Bridge. This month also, two reserve team players have given creditable performances for the first team –Iwan Williams and Mark Cook with Mark scoring his first senior goal against Bangor City.

Hatrick i Caughter!! / Caughter hatrick!!

Mae’n bosib mai dwy gol a sgoriodd Gareth Caughter yn y gwpan yn erbyn Prestatyn, ond gyda’i fuddugoliaeth gynharach yn y golff, fe gafodd ei hatrick! I sicrhau fod paratoadau at y gêm mor broffesiynol a phosib, cafwyd cinio ym Mhrestatyn, cyfarfod tîm llwyddiannus a rownd o Crazy Golff!
Esboniodd y cyd-reolwr Osian Roberts ei bod yn bwysig paratoi at gêmau mewn amryw o ffyrdd “Roedd hi’n bwysig sicrhau nad oedd gormod o bwysau ar yr hogia heddiw. Fe gawsom ni ‘chydig o hwyl, gwylio gêm Lerpwl ac wedyn y gêm. I fod yn onest, mae agwedd ac ymdrech yr hogia wedi bod yn wych yn ddiweddar, ac mae Viv a mi yn hapus iawn fod y canlyniadau diweddar wedi plesio.”
Roedd y cyd-reolwyr yn hapus efo’r perfformiad, er fod angen gwella ar y chwarae o flaen gôl yn yr hanner cyntaf. Dywedodd Viv Williams fod y chwaraewyr wedi dangos cryfder i beidio panicio ar ôl i Prestatyn fynd ar y blaen.
“12 – 18 mis yn ôl fe fyddem ni wedi mynd ar chwâl o fynd ar ei hol hi o 2-1 a gadael dwy gôl i mewn, mewn dau funud. Ond dwi’n teimlo ein bod ni mewn safle hollol wahanol bellach ac roedd ein ymateb yn anhygoel.”

Prestatyn Prestatyn Prestatyn
Prestatyn Prestatyn

Gareth Caughter may only have scored 2 goals in the Welsh Cup at Prestatyn Town, but his golfing win earlier certainly made it a hatrick! Making sure that all was done professionally by the WPL side included lunch in Prestatyn, a fruitful team meeting and a round of Crazy Golf.
Joint Manager Osian Roberts explained that it’s important to have a good mixture of approaches during the season. “Today was about taking the pressure off the lads. We had a bit of fun, watched some of the Liverpool match, and then got down to business. To be honest, the work ethic and honesty of the players has been fantastic recently, and Viv and I are so pleased that at the moment they’re getting their rewards on the pitch.”
The joint managers were pleased with the performance, if not the killer instinct in the first half. Viv Williams pointed out that the character and the maturity of the lads to react positively and calmly was the difference.
“At 2 – 1 down, having conceded 2 goals within a few minutes, we would have capitulated 12 – 18 months ago. But I feel we’re at a different level now and our response was first class.”

Anafiadau / Injuries

Cyn cwblhau’r garfan ar gyfer y ‘croen banana’ o gêm yn erbyn Prestatyn yng Nghwpan Cymru yfory, bydd rhaid i Viv Williams ac Osian Roberts edrych ar nifer o anafiadau. Ond yn wahanol i nifer o reolwyr eraill, nid ydynt yn barod i feirniadu fformat Cwpan Loosemore.
Gwelant fod y gystadleuaeth wedi rhoi cyfle iddynt newid y tîm gan roi cyfle i chwaraewyr ifanc a chael golwg ar un neu ddau o’r ail dîm. Mae’n glod i Steve a John, rheolwyr yr ail dîm, fod Mark Cook ac Iwan Williams wedi cychwyn y gêm nos Fawrth yn erbyn Y Rhyl ac wedi chwarae mor dda.
Eglurodd Roberts, “Cawsom sesiwn ymarfer ysgafn neithiwr gyda nifer dda iawn yn bresennol - bydd rhaid aros i weld os oes unrhyw anaf yn gwaethygu yn ystod y 24 awr nesaf.”

Bydd rhaid gwneud archwiliadau ar:-
Jason Sadler – yn dioddef o wenwyn bwyd.
Gareth Parry – ffêr
John Jones – clais i’w glun.
Kevin Roberts – pen glun
Richard Hughes – ffêr
Mike Foster – groin
Geraint Mitchell – clais i’w droed.
Danny Hughes – yn dal ddim ar gael am ei fod mewn priodas yng Nghyprus.

Viv Williams and Osian Roberts will have to check on a number of casualties today before finalising the squad for their potential ‘banana skin’ trip to Prestatyn Town tomorrow in the Welsh Cup. However, unlike some managers they refuse to criticise the new Loosemore Challenge Cup format.
Instead the Challenge Cup has given the joint managers the opportunity to rotate the squad, bring some youngsters through, and take a look at a few from the reserve side. They believe that it’s a credit to Steve and John with the reserves that both Mark Cook and Iwan Williams started on Tuesday night against Rhyl and did ever so well.
Roberts explained “We held a light training session last night, for which we had an excellent turnout, so we will just have to wait and see if there is any reaction during the next 24 hours.”

Check will be made on:–
Jason Sadler – been off all week with suspected food poisoning
Gareth Parry – ankle
John Jones – bruised thigh
Kevin Roberts – knee
Richard Hughes – ankle
Mike Foster – groin
Geraint Mitchell – bruised foot
Danny Hughes – still unavailable as he is out in Cyprus for a wedding.

Porthmadog yn holi am Jones / Porthmadog in for Jones

Chris JonesMewn ymateb i’r dyfalu fod Porthmadog wedi rhoi rhybudd 7 niwrnod o gynnig am Chris Jones o glwb Caernarfon, roedd y cyd rheolwr Osian Roberts yn amharod i ychwanegu dim ond i gadarnhau ei fod o a Viv Williams â diddordeb yn yr asgellwr ifanc.
“Rwy’n cadarnhau ein bod wedi rhoi rhybudd 7 niwrnod o gynnig gyda’r Gymdeithas Bêl-droed, ond i fod yn deg i’r chwaraewr a’r clwb nid wyf yn barod i wneud sylw pellach tan fydd y 7 niwrnod wedi mynd heibio. Mae’n ddigon imi ddweud fod Viv a minnau yn teimlo ei fod yn chwaraewr a fedrai fod o gymorth inni a byddai hefyd yn ffitio’n iawn yn ein ystafell newid.”

Responding to growing speculation that Port have issued a 7-day notice of approach for neighbours Caernarfon Town’s Chris Jones, joint Manager Osian Roberts was reluctant to expand further other than to confirm that he and Viv Williams are interested in the young winger.
“I can confirm that we have lodged a 7-day notice of approach with the FAW, but in fairness to both the player and the club, I can’t comment further until the 7 days have elapsed. Suffice is to say that both Viv and I think he is one that could help us, and would fit into our dressing room.”

Prestatyn v Porthmadog

Prestatyn TownNi fydd Porthmadog yn cymryd dim yn ganiataol ym Mhrestatyn a byddant yn trin eu gwrthwynebwyr gyda’r parch y maent yn ei haeddu. Dywedodd Osian Roberts “byddwn yn troi pob carreg yn ein paratoadau. Dyna’r rheswm y byddwn yn cyfarfod ganol bore ac yn cael pryd gyda’n gilydd. Byddwn yn gwneud y cyfan mor broffesiynol ag y medrwn gan obeithio y gwnaiff hyn roi sail cadarn inni symud yn ein blaenau yn y gwpan.”

Port won’t be taking anything for granted at Prestatyn Town, and will be treating the opposition with the respect they deserve. Osian Roberts said “we won’t leave any stone unturned in our preparation. That’s why we shall be meeting up mid-morning and having lunch together. We will be doing things as professionally as we can and hopefully this will give us the platform to go on and progress in the Cup.”

Llongyfarchiadau filiwn / A Million Congratulations

Yn ystod yr wythnos, cyhoeddodd y wefan Welsh-Premier ei bod wedi cyrraedd carreg filltir nodedig iawn gyda’r 1,000,000 ymweliad â’r wefan ers y cychwyn yn ôl ym mis Mawrth 2004. Mae’n dda gan wefan Porthmadog estyn eu llongyfarchiadau i wefan Welsh-Premier ar eu llwyddiant ysgubol. Y canmoliaeth uchaf a fedrwn roi iddi yw ei bod yn anodd bellach dychmygu y byd pêl droed yng Nghymru heb y wefan hon. Pan grëwyd y wefan, llanwyd gwacter mewn gwybodaeth a fodolai oherwydd diffyg diddordeb y cyfryngau Cymreig yng Nghynghrair Cymru. Hir oes i’r gronfa wych hon o wybodaeth.

Earlier this week, the Welsh-Premier website announced that it had reached a considerable milestone with the one millionth individual site visit since its launch in March 2004. Porthmadog website extends its congratulations on this remarkable achievement. The greatest compliment we can give them is to say that it is difficult now to imagine the Welsh Soccer scene without the site. The introduction of this site filled a huge void of information with the so called Welsh Media showing little or no interest in the WPL. Long may this mine of up to date information continue.

Viv yn gwneud i’r muriau ddisgyn / Viv sends the walls tumbling

Viv Cymaint oedd rhwystredigaeth Viv ar ôl i’r tîm ildio goliau gwael yn y gêm yn erbyn Y Drenewydd nes iddo achosi wal flaen y ‘dugout’ i ddisgyn i’r llawr. “ Doedd o ddim yn fwriadol” meddai Viv “ ond, pan estynnais gic, drosodd aeth y wal!” Cic fel mul bu gan Viv erioed! Cwestiwn: “A fydd o’n derbyn bil gan y Cadeirydd am y trwsio?” Ateb: Dim ar ôl y fuddugoliaeth yn erbyn Aberystwyth nos Fawrth!

Such was Viv’s frustration at the way the team conceded some poor goals in Saturday’s clash with Newtown that he sent the wall at the front of the dugout tumbling down. “It wasn’t my intention” said Viv “but I kicked out and over it went!” He always had a powerful shot! The question has been asked “Will he be receiving a bill from the Chairman for the repair job?” Answer: Not after Tuesday’s win against Aberystwyth!

Cadarnhad for Lee Webber wedi gadael / Confirmation that Lee Webber has left

Lee Webber Mae CPD Porthmadog wedi cadarnhau fod yr amddiffynnwr canol Lee Webber wedi gadael y clwb. Gofynnodd Lee am gael gadael a cytunodd cyd-reolwr Port, Viv Williams. Dywedodd Williams "Fe wnes gytuno oherwydd fod gennym ni ddau amddiffynnwr canol da iawn - Ryan Davies a Rhys Roberts - ac maent yn cyd-chwarae'n dda iawn ac hefyd mae Geraint Mitchel yn chwaraewr ifanc addawol iawn sydd wedi chwarae'n dda bob tro mae wedi bod yn y garfan.". Aeth Viv ymlaen i ddweud "Ar ran CPD Porthmadog hoffwn gymryd y cyfle i ddiolch i Lee am ei ymdrech dros y blynyddoedd ac rydym yn dymuno'r gorau iddo at y dyfodol".

Porthmadog FC have confirmed that central defender Lee Webber has left the club. Lee asked to leave and Joint Manager Viv Williams agreed to his request. Williams said "I agreed to his request because we have two excellent centre halves in Ryan Davies and Rhys Roberts who have played exceptionally well together and we also have another up and coming young player in Geraint Mitchell who has done well every time he has been called up to the squad". Williams added "On behalf of Porthmadog FC I would like to take this opportunity to thank Lee for his effort for the club over the years and wish him well for the future".

Porthmadog yn ceisio sicrhad dyrchafiad / Porthmadog seek promotion assurances

Gan fod ail dîm TNS wedi cael eu dyrchafu i Gynghrair Spar y Canolbarth ar gyfer y tymor presennol, mae Porthmadog wedi ysgrifennu at y Gymdeithas Bêl Droed a Chynghrair y Welsh Alliance i geisio sicrwydd, pe byddent yn ennill Cynghrair Gwynedd (www.cynghrair-gwynedd-league.co.uk/) eleni neu yn y dyfodol, y byddent hefyd yn cael eu dyrchafu i’r trydydd lefel yn y Pyramid Cymreig. I sicrhau dyrchafiad, bu’n rhaid i TNS fynd i bwyllgor apêl ar ôl cael eu gwrthod i gychwyn. Enillodd Porthmadog Gynghrair Gwynedd yn 2004-05 ond gwrthodwyd iddynt ddyrchafiad i’r Welsh Alliance ac, o ganlyniad, gwahanodd y tîm llwyddiannus wrth i nifer o’r chwaraewyr adael ac ymuno â chlybiau eraill. Yn barod, mae Osian Roberts wedi dweud fod gwrthod tegwch i bawb gan roi hawl i ail dimau rhai clybiau chwarae ar y trydydd lefel a gwrthod yr un hawl i eraill “... yn ei gwneud bron yn amhosib i glybiau ddatblygu chwaraewyr drwy’r ail dîm.” Edrychwn ymlaen at yr ymateb.

In view of TNS Reserves’ promotion to the Spar Mid Wales League for the current season, Porthmadog have now written to the FAW and the Welsh Alliance seeking assurances that should Porthmadog Reserves win the Gwynedd League (www.cynghrair-gwynedd-league.co.uk/) this year or in the future, they would also be allowed promotion to the third tier in the Welsh Pyramid. To gain promotion, TNS had to go to an appeals tribunal after they had initially been refused promotion. Porthmadog won the Gwynedd League in 2004-05 but were refused promotion to the Welsh Alliance and as a result that successful team disintegrated with many players moving on to other clubs. Osian Roberts has already pointed out that refusing all clubs a level playing field and allowing some clubs to field reserve sides at the third tier while refusing this privilege to other clubs makes it “...virtually impossible for Clubs to develop their own players via their reserves.” We look forward to the response.

Deuawd Canol Cae yn arwyddo am y tymor / Midfield duo sign for season

Danny Hughes Yn ystod yr wythnos hon, mae dau o chwaraewyr canol cae Porthmadog wedi arwyddo cytundebau am weddill y tymor. Roedd Danny Hughes a Gareth Parry yn chwaraewyr heb fod dan gytundeb tan rwan. Nid yw’n gyfrinach fod Bangor a Chaernarfon wedi rhoi rhybudd o gynnig 7 niwrnod ar Gareth Parry yn ystod yr wythnosau diwethaf ond roedd yn hapus i aros gyda Phorthmadog.
Cafodd Gareth gyfnod anodd y tymor diwethaf oherwydd anafiadau ond mae’n adennill ei ffitrwydd bellach a chwaraeodd rhan yn ystod y ddwy gêm yn erbyn Y Rhyl. Unwaith oedd Danny yn siwr o’i sefyllfa gwaith roedd o hefyd yn hapus i arwyddo.
Dywed Viv Williams, cyd rheolwr Porthmadog yn ei erthygl ‘View from the Bench’ ar gyfer rhaglen ddydd Sadwrn “Mae’r ddau yn chwaraewyr dylanwadol iawn yng nghanol y cae ac mae’n dda gwybod y byddant gyda ni am y tymor”

Gareth Parry Two of Porthmadog's midfielders have signed season long contracts this week which will ensure they will be at the club for the remainder of the season. Gareth Parry and Danny Hughes who were both on non contract basis previously have now signed contracts. It is no secret that both Caernarfon and Bangor have put 7 days notice of approach for Gareth in the past couple of weeks but he was happy to stay with Porthmadog.
Gareth has had a difficult time with injuries last season and he is just coming back to fitness now, he played a part in both games against Rhyl. Danny was a little more clear cut as soon as he was sure of his availability with work he was happy to sign.
Port joint Manager Viv Williams was happy with the news, commenting in his View from the Bench article in the match programme for Saturday's game he said "Both players are a major influence in midfield for us and we are pleased that we now know that they will be with us for the season".

We have been the subject of some criticism for our Commercial and Public Relations in the past and we are committed to significantly improving these aspects of our performance, and the service which we provide to the clubs, media and the general public. Andrew Howard, the FAW Club Licensing Officer has put an awful lot of work into the development of this site and although there may well be teething problems, I am sure that it will prove to be a great success. We would indeed invite constructive criticism and advice in our efforts to further improve the site and I can assure everyone that every person that contacts this site, will receive a prompt response."

Awst yr Ail Dîm / Reserves in August

A hithau ond yn ddiwedd Awst, mae gan yr ail dîm yn barod ddwy gêm i’w hadrefnu. Bu’n rhaid dod â’r gêm yn erbyn Blaenau Ffestiniog i ben ar ôl 69 munud oherwydd niwl trwchus gyda Phorthmadog 2-1 ar y blaen ac ar Awst 29 gohiriwyd y gêm yn erbyn ail dîm Llangefni oherwydd problem efo sicrhau dyfarnwr. Mae hyn i gyd yn dilyn cychwyn ardderchog i’r tymor wrth iddynt guro Real Llandudno o 7-2 yn y gêm gyntaf ac yn dilyn hyn gyda buddugoliaeth swmpus arall o 8-1 yn erbyn y newydd ddyfodiaid Llanllyfni. Un gêm arall sydd wedi’i chwarae ym mis Awst gyda’r gêm yn erbyn Bethel yn gorffen yn gyfartal 2-2. Y prif sgoriwr hyd yma ydy Dylan Jones gyda phump o goliau gydag Iwan Thomas a Jon Peris Jones wedi sgorio tair yr un.

Although it is only the end of August, the reserves already have two matches to rearrange. The game at Cae Clyd against Blaenau Ffestiniog had to be abandoned after 69 minutes because of thick fog with Porthmadog 2-1 ahead at the time and on August 29th the game against Llangefni Reserves was postponed because of difficulties in ensuring a referee. This followed an excellent start to the season winning the first game against Real Llandudno 7-2 and then inflicting an 8-1 defeat on newcomers Llanllyfni. One other game has been played during August -that against Bethel which ended in a draw 2-2. The leading scorer at the moment is Dylan Jones with 5 goals followed by Iwan Thomas and Jon Peris Jones with three apiece.
