Welsh Under 12 Academy Final

Porthmadog 4-1 Haverfordwest
Joe Holt (2)
Leo Smith
Sion Bradley

Cynhaliwyd y rownd derfynol ym Mharc Latham, Y Drenewydd yn erbyn Hwlffordd.
Rheolodd Porthmadog y gêm o'r dechrau gyda chwpwl o gyfleoedd cynnar yn cael
eu methu. Dim ond 15 munud gymrodd hi i Port fynd ar y blaen wrth i Joe Holt
gwblhau symudiad gwych gan y tîm. Dim ond chydig funudau'n ddiweddarach oedd hi
cyn i Joe Holt ychwanegu ei ail. Arbedwyd ergyd Sion Bradley o'r dde a
disgynnodd yn bêl i Joe oedd gan dasg hawdd o roi'r bêl yn y rhwyd. Cwblhaewyd
perfformiad gwych wrth i ergyd o bell Leo Smith ei gwneud yn 3-0 cyn yr hanner.

Roedd yr ail hanner yn llawer mwy clos gyda Porthmadog yn gwastraffu'r mwyafrif
o'r cyfleoedd, ond Hwlffordd sgoriodd nesaf gyda gôl wych yn rhoi rhywfaint o
obaith iddynt. Diflannodd y gobaith hwnnw wrth i ergyd Cai Parry gael ei harbed
ac i Sion Bradley orffen y symudiad gydag ergyd hawdd i gefn y rhwyd.

The final took place in Latham Park, Newtown against Haverfordwest.
Porthmadog were on top from the first whistle and missed a couple of early
chances. It only took 15 minutes to take the lead through Joe Holt who finished
off a great move for Porthmadog. The next goal came a couple of minutes later
from Joe Holt again. Sion Bradley shot from the right was saved and the rebound
fell to Joe who had the simple task of putting the ball in the back of the net.
Just before half time Porthmadog finished a great first half performance with a
long range shot from Leo Smith making it 3-0.

The second half was a closer affair with Porthmadog wasting most of the
chances, but it was Haverfordwest who scored next with lovely finish giving
them hope of a comeback but Porthmadog dashed the little hope they had when
Cai Parry's shot was pushed away straight to Sion Bradley who followed up with
a tap in.

Roedd y daith hir i’r Drenewydd, ar gyfer y gic gyntaf am 11am, yn
golygu cychwyn cynnar ond ni rhwystrodd hynny’r hogiau rhag dechrau’r
gêm ar dân. Ar ôl dwy gêm braidd yn ddiflas yn erbyn Bangor ein bwriad
oedd taro ’nol, a dyna a gafwyd gyda phasio celfydd a symudiad da yn
arwain at gôl gan Cai Parry ar ôl 4 munud. Cafwyd ail gôl –ergyd wych-
gan Leo Smith a wedyn Dylan Jones yn gorffen symudiad da arall gyda gôl.
Ychwanegodd Joe Holt a Siôn Bradley gôl yr un i wneud y sgôr ar yr egwyl
yn 5-1.
Roedd yr ail hanner yn ddigon tebyg gyda Port yn rheoli’r 30 munud cyfan.
Sgoriodd Leo Smith dwy arall i gwblhau ei hat tric ac ychwanegodd Cai
Parry a Joe Holt un yr un eto. Cic o’r smotyn oedd gôl y Drenewydd – ac
nid oedd hwn yn benderfyniad a blesiodd tîm Port. Claddwyd y gic yng
nghefn y rhwyd gan amddiffynnwr y Drenewydd. Diolch yn fawr i glwb y
Drenewydd am eu trefniadau rhagorol ar gyfer y diwrnod.

A long trip to Newtown with an 11:00am KO meant a very early start from
Porthmadog but they started the game in a good fashion. After 2 very
scrappy games against Bangor we were looking to bounce back with a good
display and that's exactly what they did. Within 4 minutes Porthmadog
scored after a lovely passing movement Cai Parry slotted home. This goal
was followed up by a wonderful strike form Leo Smith, Dylan Jones tapped
in after a very slick passing move from Porthmadog, Joe Holt and Sion
Bradley also scored to make it 5-1 at half-time, Porthmadog giving away
a very sloppy goal.
The second half was very similar Porthmadog dominating the whole half
hour. Leo Smith scored twice in this half to give himself a hat-rick and
Cai Parry and Joe Holt doubled their tally for the day bagging a goal
each. Newtown did reply with a penalty, which was disputed by the whole
Porthmadog team but the Newtown defender buried it in the back of the net.
Newtown did an excellent job of organising the day a big thanks to them

Yn anffodus i hogia Port doedden nhw ddim yn cael chwarae ar gae
ardderchog Parc Latham lle enillodd hogia'r llynedd Cwpan Academïau Cymru
ond ar gae wrth yr afon. Er hyn, dod adref yn fuddugol oedd yr hanes eto.
Hon oedd y drydedd fuddugoliaeth yn olynol a gwelwyd perfformiad da
unwaith eto gan yr hogia. Roedd gan Y Drenewydd chwaraewyr dawnus yn ganol
y cae a nhw gychwynnodd orau gan ymosod yn dda yn y pum munud cyntaf. Ond
ar ymosodiad cyntaf Port wedi 7 munud trodd David Copsey yr amddiffynnwr un
ffordd ac yna ffordd arall a tharo'r bel i'r gol wedi'r gôl-geidwad arbed ei
ergyd gyntaf. Setlodd yr hogia wedyn gan geisio chwarae ei gem bel-droed
arferol ond roedd arwyneb y cae yn ei gwneud yn anodd ar brydiau. Dyfalbarhau
a wnaethant, chwarae teg, gan ymwrthod rhag chware y bel yn yr awyr a crëwyd
cwpl o gyfleon da yn yr hanner cyntaf na ddaeth yn goliau. Roedd Y Drenewydd
hefyd yn creu hanner cyfleon ond roedd Sion Phillips, Carwyn Jones, Tom
Williams ac Alex Lanz yn gadarn iawn yn y cefn i Port. Wrth ymosod Sion Kyle
ar asgell chwith Port oedd yn edrych beryclaf a daeth llawer o ymosodiadau
o'i rediadau twyllodrus ef. Wedi'r hanner yr un peth oedd yr arlwy gyda Y
Drenewydd yn methu a chyrraedd blwch cosbi Port er iddynt edrych yn gadarn
yng nghanol cae a Port yn creu hanner cyfleon da. Yna, gyda chwarter y gem i
fynd, a gyda ergyd gywir o'r chwith ymestynnodd Aaron Griffiths mantais Port
ac roedd y chwarter olaf yn gyffyrddus i hogia ni gyda Seb Bowcott yn torri
trwy'r amddiffyn ar un achlysur a gorfodi arbediad da gan y gôl-geidwad
cartref. Roedd hon eto yn gem daclus, cystadleuol a theg i'r hogia a daeth
cyfle i'r Hyfforddwr symud chwaraewyr o gwmpas a newid safleoedd. Aeth y
cefnwr dibynadwy, Tomos Williams, i ganol cae am gyfnod gan edrych yn dda
yno a chael cwpl o ergydion o ymyl y blwch a allai fod wedi ymestyn y
fantais.

The Port lads unfortunately did not have the opportunity to play on the
excellent Latham Park where last season’s team won the Welsh Academies Cup -
but on another pitch near the river. Despite this they returned home having
notched another win. This was their third successive win and proved to be
another good one. Newtown had excellent midfield players and they started the
better with early attacks. But in their first real attack, after 7 minutes,
David Copsey for Port turned his marker one way and then the other before
striking into the net after the keeper had stopped his first effort. The lads
then settled trying to play their normal game though the surface proved
difficult at times. They stuck to their task and tried to keep the ball on
the ground but, though they created some opportunities, the goals did not
come. Newtown created several half chances but Sion Phillips, Carwyn Jones,
Tom Williams and Alex Lanz proved strong enough at the back. Siôn Kyle was a
dangerman for Port down the left with some of the best attacks coming from his
tricky runs. In the second-half it was more of the same with Newtown strong in
midfield but ineffective in the box while Port created a number of half
chances. Then with 15 minutes left Aaron Griffiths, with and accurate strike
from the left, extended the Port lead, giving them a comfortable last quarter.
Seb Bowcott also forced the home keeper into a good save after opening up the
defence. This was another good performance with the coaches taking the
opportunity to experiment and Tomos Williams looked good in midfield striking
a couple of good efforts which could have further extended the Port lead.
