Tymor yn gorffen i'r Ail Dim / Reserves season comes to an end

Cynghrair Gwynedd League Cwblhaodd yr Ail Dîm eu tymor gyda buddugoliaeth sydd yn eu gadael yn yr 8fed safle. Hon oedd yr ail fuddugoliaeth ddiweddar dros Llanfairfechan a hynny heb golli’r un gôl. Sgoriodd Carl Threadgill ei 10 fed gôl yng Nghynghrair Gwynedd ers ymuno â Port ym mis Ionawr mewn buddugoliaeth o 4-0. Sgoriwyd y goliau eraill gan Steve Jones, Lloyd Edwards a Mark Bridge. Ynghynt yn mis Ebrill roedd yna fuddugoliaeth arall dros Llanfairfechan o 3-0 gyda’r goliau gan Mark Bridge, Carl Threadgill a Jac Jones, i gyd yn dod yn yr hanner cyntaf.
Ym mis Mawrth yr unig gemau a gafwyd oedd dwy yn erbyn ail dîm Caergybi ac yr un oedd y sgôr yn y ddwy gêm sef buddugoliaeth o 2-0 i’r ynyswyr. Wedi hyn roedd Gwalchmai, ceffylau blaen y gynghrair, yn eu haros ar ddechrau Ebrill. Colli’n drwm oedd yr hanes o 7-2 ond er hynny llwyddodd Carl Threadgill i sgorio ddwywaith. Ond ar ôl hyn cafwyd perfformiad llawer gwell gan guro Caernarfon Wanderers ar y Traeth o 4-0. Roedd yna bedwar sgoriwr gwahanol gyda Carl Threadgill, Jac Jones, Cai Jones ac Ezra Warren yn rhwydo gôl yr un. Y gêm arall a chwaraewyd ym mis Ebrill oedd y gêm yn erbyn y cymdogion Llanystumdwy gyda’r sgôr ar y diwedd yn gyfartal gyda Carl Threadgill yn sgorio dwywaith yn erbyn ei gyn glwb. The Reserves completed their season with a victory which left them in 8th spot in the table. The win was the second of two recent victories over Llanfairfechan without conceding a goal. In the 4-0 win in the last game of the season Carl Threadgill, who scored on his senior debut at Rhyl in the Coast Cup, netted his 10th Gwynedd League goal, since signing for Port in January,. The other goals came from Steven Jones Lloyd Edwards and Mark Bridge. Earlier in April three first half goals from Mark Bridge, Carl Threadgill and Jack Jones were enough to give them a home win against the same opposition.
In March their only activity was two back to back games against Holyhead Reserves with the islanders winning on both occasions by the same 2-0 scoreline. They started April on a low note with a 7-2 drubbing against league leaders Gwalchmai but Carl Threadgill still managed to get his name on the score sheet twice! This was followed by a much improved performance giving them a clear cut 4-0 win at the Traeth against Caernarfon Wanderers. The goals came from four different players with Carl Threadgill, Jack Jones, Cai Jones and Ezra Warren scoring a goal each. The other game played in April was the derby game against neighbours Llanystumdwy which ended all square at 2-2 with Carl Threadgill scoring twice against his former club.

Sgiliau Pêl-droed / Soccer Skills Sicrhaodd Port fuddugoliaeth dda o 4-2 dros Bala yn Ffeinal y Gogledd o gwpan Academi Cymru. Gall y ddau dîm fod yn falch iawn o’u perfformiadau mewn gêm gyffrous gyda’r chwarae yn symud yn gyflym o un pen o’r cae i’r llall â prin angen i’r dyfarnwr cosbi neb.
Gorffennodd yr hanner cyntaf yn ddi-sgor er fod y ddau dîm wedi cael cyfleoedd. Ond tri munud i’r ail hanner agorodd Port y sgorio gyda Leo Smith yn rhoi Joe Holt i fewn tu ôl yr amddiffyn a Joe wedyn yn mynd o gwmpas y golwr cyn taro’r bêl i’r rhwyd. Bron yn syth cafodd Bala gyfle i daro nol gyda cic o’r smotyn ond cafwyd arbediad gwych gan Owain Williams. Manteisiodd Port ar hyn a dim ond munud yn ddiweddarach roedd Cai Parry yn rhwydo gyda ergyd ar ochr chwith y bocs. Gyda 44 munud wedi mynd aeth Port dair gôl ar y blaen diolch i beniad isel gwych Cai Parry o groesiad Dylan Sweeney. Ond doedd Bala ddim yn barod i roi’r ffidil yn y to a sgoriodd Dan Dascalu gyda ergyd arbennig wrth dorri fewn o’r dde. Gyda 5 munud yn weddill agorwyd amddiffyn Bala gyda pêl wych Siôn Bradley ac aeth Leo Smith ymlaen i sgorio gyda ergyd isel i gornel y rhwyd. Ond hyd yn oed wedyn dal ati wnaiff Bala a daeth yr ail gôl yn agos at y diwedd.

In an outstanding Northern Final of the Welsh Academies’ Cup at the Traeth the Porthmadog youngsters defeated Bala by 4-2. Both sides were a credit to themselves and their clubs as they produced an exciting end to end encounter with some excellent football and hardly a foul to report.
There were no goals in an even first half though both sides had their opportunities to open the scoring. Only three minutes into the second half Port struck the first blow when Leo Smith put Joe Holt in behind the defence for the forward to round the keeper and score. Bala had the opportunity to draw level almost immediately but Owain Williams pulled off a fine save from the penalty spot. Port took advantage of this let off and a minute later doubled their advantage with Cai Parry finding the net with an angled shot from the left of the box. In the 44th minute Port made it 3-0 when Cai Parry met Dylan Sweeney’s cross with a superb, low diving header. Bala did not keel over but raised their game and on 47 minutes Dan Dascalu cutting in from the right reduced the arrears with a cracking shot from 15 yards. With five minutes left Siôn Bradley opened up the Bala defence with a fine through ball and Leo Smith finished with a low shot for Port’s fourth goal. Even now Bala were not prepared to lie down and close to the end scored their second.

Port yn chwilio am olygydd newydd i’r rhaglen / Port look for a new programme editor

Gerallt Owen Wedi iddo olygu’r rhaglen am ran helaeth o’r cyfnod ers cychwyn UGC mae Gerallt Owen wedi penderfynu rhoi’r gorau i’r swydd. Daeth y penderfyniad ar ôl iddo olygu’r rhaglen ar gyfer gêm olaf y tymor, ar y Traeth, yn erbyn Port Talbot. Mae Gerallt wedi gosod safonau uchel i eraill eu dilyn wrth gynhyrchu rhaglen a oedd bob amser yn ddiddorol, weithiau yn codi cynnwrf ac yn un sydd wedi derbyn nifer o wobrau haeddiannol am y ‘Rhaglen Orau.”
Meddai Gerallt, “Rwyf wedi bod mewn trafferth gyda’r Gymdeithas Bêl-droed ac o’u blaen ar gyhuddiad o ddwyn anfri, yn y dyddiau pan oedd Colin Hawkins y rheoli.. Ond credaf fod beirniadu’r awdurdodau wedi codi proffil y rhaglen a’r clwb hefyd. Nid clwb i eistedd yn ôl gan adael i bawb ei sathru dan draed ydy Porthmadog, da ni’n barod i gwffio fel y gwnaethom yn ddiweddar yn erbyn y gynghrair 12 clwb.” Nid yn un i golli’r cyfle, meddai Gerallt, gan anelu un bwled arall, “Yn y blynyddoedd i ddod credaf fydd galwad Port am gynghrair 16 clwb yn cael ei dderbyn. Unwaith i realiti’r newidiadau daro’r clybiau bydd y fflyrtio efo 12 clwb yn cael ei luchio i fin sbwriel hanes.” Diolch i Gerallt am ei holl waith.
Bydd yn dda gan y cadeirydd Phil Jones glywed wrth unrhyw berson sydd a’r awydd i fod yn olygydd y rhaglen.

After editing the match programme for most of the period since the inception of the WPL, Gerallt Owen has decided to relinquish his role. He announced his decision after editing the programme for the last home game of the season against Port Talbot. Gerallt has set a high standard for others to follow with a programme always interesting often controversial and has received many well deserved ‘Best Programme’ awards over the years.
Gerallt recalls “I have had a few scrapes with the FAW and was up on a disrepute charge in the days when Colin Hawkins was manager. However I also feel that being a critic of the powers that be and some of the decisions they have made over the years has raised the profile of the programme and of the club. Porthmadog is not a club to sit back and get trodden over, we have fought our corner, most recently over the new 12 club league.”
Never one to miss an opportunity Gerallt aims one more swipe, “In years to come I believe that Porthmadog’s call for a 16 club league will be heeded, and that this dalliance with 12 clubs will be put into the dustbin of history when the reality of the changes hit home to clubs.” Thanks to Gerallt for all his hard work.
If you are able to assist and fulfil the editor’s role then club chairman Phil Jones would be happy to hear from you.

Dan-12 yn y rownd cynderfynol nos Wener / U-12 semi final on Friday

Sgiliau Pêl-droed / Soccer Skills Er fod tymor UGC drosodd mae’r Academi yn dal i fod yn destun balchder. Cymysg fu canlyniadau’r timau Dan-16 a Dan-14. Sicrhaodd y tîm Dan-16 le yn wyth olaf y gwpan gyda buddugoliaeth fawr dros y Rhyl o 9-2. Ond ar ôl brwydr galed yng Nghei Conna ddydd Sul colli o 2-1 fu’r hanes yn erbyn tîm cryf a chorfforol. Dymuna Academi Port longyfarch Cei Conna ar sicrhau fod dau o’u timau wedi cyrraedd y rowndiau cynderfynol.
Er fod y tîm Dan-14 wedi methu cyrraedd rownd yr wyth olaf, gwnaethon nhw hefyd guro’r Rhyl o 2-1 gan fethu mynd ymlaen ar wahaniaeth goliau yn unig.

The WPL season may be over but the Academy continues to make the club proud. The U-12 team having reached the semi final of the Welsh Academies Cup will play Bala for a place in the final. The game will be played at the Traeth on Friday evening (30 April) with a 7 pm kick off. The success so far of the Academy is something for us all to celebrate so why not come along to the Traeth on Friday and cheer the young lads on.
For the U-16s and U-14s it has been a case of mixed fortunes. The U-16s clinched a place in the quarter finals defeating Rhyl by 9-2. But after a brave effort in the quarter final at Connah’s Quay on Sunday they went down by the odd goal in three against a big, strong side. The Port Academy pay tribute to Connah’s Quay who have two of their squads into the semi finals.
Though the U-14s missed out on qualification for the quarter finals they also defeated Rhyl with a score o 2-1 but found themselves edged out by Connah’s Quay on goal difference.

Abertawe rhy gryf i Port / Swansea too strong for Port

Abertawe / Swansea Roedd chwaraewyr proffesiynol ifanc Abertawe yn rhy gryf i Port wrth ail chwarae’r gêm yng Nghwpan Ieuenctid Cymru ar y Traeth heddiw (25 Ebrill). Abertawe yn ennill o 6-0. Wedi iddynt gau’r gwrthwynebwyr i lawr a dal eu hymosodiadau chwim am yr 20 munud agoriadol siom oedd i Abertawe sgorio ddwy waith mewn dau funud. Daeth y gyntaf ar ôl 23 munud gyda cic o’r smotyn feddal iawn yn dilyn. Aeth yr ymwelwyr ymlaen i ymestyn amddiffyn Port gyda pasio cywir a rhedeg cryf gan ychwanegu dwy gôl arall cyn yr egwyl. Canlyniad o basio a symud arbennig o dda oedd un o’r goliau yma. Rhaid canmol Port yn yr ail hanner am ddal at dasg anodd, a hynny o dan bwysau am gyfnodau hir. Bu’n rhaid i Meilir Elis yn y gôl wneud sawl arbediad da iawn ac yng nghanol y cae tanlinellodd Jac Jones ei allu unwaith eto yn canfod lle ac yn rheoli’n dda o dan pwysau mawr. Ychwanegodd Abertawe bumed gôl ar ôl 67 munud gyda ergyd isel o ymyl y bocs. Roedd Port yn anlwcus, ar ôl brwydro’n galed yn yr ail hanner, i ildio chweched gôl munud o’r diwedd.
Port: Meilir Elis, Ezra Warren, Dylan Williams, Sion Jones, Richard Jones, Iwan Lane, Jac Jones, Iddon Price, Cai Jones, Liam Hughes, Tom Owen. Sub: Chris Pritchard.

The young professionals of Swansea City proved too strong for the Port youngsters in the replayed FAW Youth Cup quarter final at the Traeth today (25 April) running out winners by 6-0. After holding the slick Swansea attacks and closing down well for the opening 20 minutes, two goals within three minutes proved a severe setback for the home team. A corner produced a goal squeezed in at the back post after 23 minutes followed by a soft penalty award two minutes later. The visitors continued to stretch the Port defence with accurate passing and strong running going on to add two more goals before the interval. One of these was the result of an excellent move with good movement and passing. To their credit the Port youngsters did not capitulate and stuck to their task well in the second period though under the cosh for long periods. Meilir Elis in goal was called on to make several excellent saves and Jac Jones once again underlined his quality in midfield for Port with good control and showing the ability to find space under pressure. A 5th Swansea goal came via a low drive from the edge of the box after 67 minutes. Port were unfortunate, after a battling second half performance, to concede a sixth in the 89th minute.
Port: Meilir Elis, Ezra Warren, Dylan Williams, Sion Jones, Richard Jones, Iwan Lane, Jac Jones, Iddon Price, Cai Jones, Liam Hughes, Tom Owen. Sub: Chris Pritchard.

Bydd yr ymweliad â Stadiwm Glannau Dyfrdwy ddydd Sadwrn yn dod a thymor helbulus UGC i ben. Os mai ond safle yn y gynghrair sy’n mynd i gyfrif yn y Cymru Alliance bydd Port a Chei Conna yn cyfarfod y tymor nesaf. Ond gyda 10 clwb yn aros i apêl y Drwydded Domestig gael ei gwblhau, mae’n bosib y bydd yna ambell dro yn y gynffon cyn i’r cyfan ddod i fwcl.
Gan na all yr un o’r ddau glwb wella eu safle yn y tabl mater o falchder fydd hi y tro yma. Ond eto mi allai Port ddisgyn un safle os bydd y Trallwng yn curo y Rhyl ar Faesydre a Port heb lwyddo i ennill. Mae perfformiadau Port a Chei Conna wedi gwella’n fawr yn ddiweddar ac yn amddiffynnol mae’r tîm o Lannau Dyfrdwy wedi bod yn dynn iawn. Bydd Port y edrych i ychwanegu at rhediad o 3 buddugoliaeth ac un gyfartal yn eu gemau oddi cartref diweddar.

Saturday’s visit to Deeside Stadium marks the end of a season of turmoil in the WPL. If league position is all that counts then Port and the Nomads will next meet in the Cymru Alliance. But with 10 clubs waiting for Domestic Licence appeals to be heard, there could yet be one or two twists in the tail before everything is finalised.
Neither of the two clubs can improve their league position so it is mainly pride at stake though Port could drop a place if they lose and Welshpool go on to win their final game at home to Rhyl. Both Port and the Nomads have been giving improved performances of late and defensively Connah’s Quay have been extremely tight. Port will look to maintain their 15th place in the table and extend their unbeaten away run to 5 games.

Dan-12 drwodd yn Cwpan Academi Cymru / U-12s go through in Welsh Academies Cup

Llongyfarchiadau i’r tîm Dan-12 a enillodd eu gêm bwysig oddi cartref yn Cei Conna yn rownd wyth olaf Cwpan Academi Cymru. Roedd angen ymdrech fawr yn rhan olaf y gêm i sicrhau buddugoliaeth. Aeth y tîm cartref ar y blaen ar ôl 15 munud ond aeth cic rhydd fel roced i gefn y rhwyd i wneud y sgôr yn gyfartal. Roedd yn dal yn 1-1 ar yr egwyl. Cei Conna aeth ar y blaen eto yn yr ail hanner. Er i Port bwyso’n galed ni ddaeth y gôl i wneud y sgôr yn gyfartal tan dwy funud o’r diwedd ond wedyn aeth Port ymlaen i sicrhau gôl hwyr arall i ennill 3-2. Yn anffodus nid oes gennym enwau’r sgorwyr.

Congratulations to the U-12 team on winning their important quarter final Welsh Academy Cup game away at Connah’s Quay. It needed a great effort in the final stages to achieve this victory. The home team went ahead after 15 minutes but a rocketing free kick not long after levelled the scores and it remained 1-1 at the interval. In the second half it was first blood again to Connah’s Quay. Despite heavy Port pressure the equaliser did not come until two minutes from time and then they went on to clinch the 3-2 victory with another late goal. Unfortunately we have not received the names of the scorers.

Tomi yn ymchwilio dros y Gymdeithas Bêl-droed / Tomi does a little research for the FAW.

Tomi Morgan Ychydig o fisoedd yn ôl, wrth gyfeirio at Tomi Morgan dywedodd John Deakin, “Rwy’n siwr o ystyried ei brofiad a’i wasanaeth i bêl-droed yng Nghymru bydd unrhyw gyngor sydd ganddo (am y newidiadau i’r gynghrair) yn cael ei werthfawrogi’n fawr.”
Mewn erthygl bwysig mae’n cadarnhau na chafodd unrhyw wahoddiad i roi cyngor ond mae wedi penderfynu siarad dros tri grwp na gafodd gyfle i fynegi barn am y newidiadau i strwythur y gynghrair: y cefnogwyr, y rheolwyr a’r chwaraewyr.Darllenwch fwy.

Some months ago John Deakin said of Tomi “I’m sure that any advice he may have on this (the changes to the league) would be greatly appreciated given his experience and service to football in Wales.”
In an important article he confirms that the invitation to give advice never came but speaks out for three groups who were never consulted about the changes in the league structure: the supporters, the managers and the players. Read more

Prestatyn Er iddyn nhw fwynhau dipyn o lwyddiant yn ystod y tymor boddi wrth ymyl y lan oedd hanes tîm Dan-19 Porthmadog yn Rownd Derfynol, Cwpan Dan-19, Arfordir y Gogledd, ddoe (18 Ebrill) yn Llanfairpwll. Port sgoriodd gyntaf gyda Tom Owen yn rhwydo ar ôl chwarter awr. Collodd Prestatyn eu golwr yn ystod yr hanner cyntaf ond cafodd yr eilydd gêm dda iawn. Port oedd yn dal ar y blaen ar yr hanner. Ond yn gynnar yn yr ail hanner daeth Prestatyn yn gyfartal diolch i gôl gan Carl Murray. Er fod y gôl yn sbardun iddynt, ni chafwyd y gôl holl bwysig tan 72 munud pan sgoriodd Jack Higgins yn dilyn cic gosb.

Despite enjoying considerable success during the season the Porthmadog U-19s fell at the final hurdle going down 2-1 to Prestatyn in the North Wales Coast U-19 Final at Llanfairpwll yesterday (18 April). It was Port who scored first with Tom Owen putting them ahead in after 15 minutes. Also during the opening half Prestatyn lost their keeper through injury but the replacement, in fact, proved more than adequate. Port remained ahead at the interval. But almost immediately after the restart Prestatyn drew level thanks to a goal by Carl Murray. This spurred Prestatyn on but the all important second goal did not come until the 72nd minute when Jack Higgins scored following a free kick.

Cwpan Ieuenctid -Port yn apelio’r penderfyniad / Port to appeal FAW Youth Cup decision

FAW Bellach mae’r clwb wedi penderfynu apelio i’r Gymdeithas Bêl-droed ynglyn â’r penderfyniad i beidio ail gynnwys tîm Dan-19 Porthmadog yn y gystadleuaeth ar ôl i Abertawe gael eu diarddel am ddefnyddio chwaraewr anghymwys yn rownd yr wyth olaf yn erbyn Port ar y Traeth. Mae’r gwaith papur angenrheidiol wedi ei drosglwyddo i’r Pencadlys yng Nghaerdydd a disgwylir i banel gael eu enwebu yn fuan i glywed yr apêl. Golyga’r penderfyniad gwreiddiol fod Llandudno yn cael mynediad yn syth i’r rownd derfynol. Mae’r rheol berthnasol yn dweud “Yn achos unrhyw chwaraewr a gaiff ei ganfod yn anghymwys, bydd rhaid i'r clwb a'i chwaraeodd gael eu barnu i fod wedi colli'r gêm".

The club has decided to appeal the decision not to reinstate Porthmadog U-19s into the FAW Youth Cup following the expulsion of Swansea City for playing an ineligible player in the quarter final game against Port at the Traeth. The necessary paper work has already been forwarded to FAW Headquarters in Cardiff and it is anticipated that a panel will shortly be named to hear the appeal. The original decision meant that Llandudno would reach the final without kicking a ball. The relevant competition rule states "In the case of any player being found ineligible, the Club playing him must be adjudged to have lost the match."
