Cwpan Her y Gogledd yn Ffars / NWC Challenge Cup loses Credibility

"Roedd yr amgylchiadau o gwmpas ein gem yn rownd yr wyth olaf Cwpan Her Gogledd Cymru yn ffars a dweud y lleiaf. Roedd Treffynnon ddim yn barod i symud y gem o Sadwrn diwethaf (Mawrth 13) i unrhyw ddiwrnod arall gan wybod yn iawn fod y tim cyntaf yn chwarae gem yn y Gynghrair (Cwmbran). Mae hyn wedi digwydd i nifer o dimau eraill yn y Gynghrair Genedlaethol gyda timau is i lawr y piramid yn cymryd mantais o'r sefyllfa i fynd drwodd. Mae'n rhaid i Gymdeithas Pel-droed yr Arfordir edrych eto ar y gystadleuaeth neu mi fydd yn dirywio i fod yn gystadleuaeth ddibwys arall i dimau tu allan i'r Gynghrair Genedlaethol.
Er gwaethaf hynny roedd perfformiad bechgyn yr ail dim i'w ganmol gan iddynt fwy na dal tim sydd yn chwarae dwy gynghrair yn uwch."
(Gerallt Owen: Golygyddol Rhaglen Port v Port Talbot)
Canlyniad: Port 1 Treffynnon 2 (ar ol amser ychwanegol)

"What a shame the Reserves could not turn chances into goals and get the club through to the semi-finals of the Challenge Cup. It was disappointing that the club were forced to field the Reserves in what was once a prestigious competition. The credibility of the competition has been severely dented in recent years as clubs in the Welsh Premier have been forced to pull out or field second strings as clubs down the pyramid are unwilling to accomodate midweek matches. The North Wales Coast FA need to address the problem and come up with a solution quickly if the competition is not to become a laughing stock."
(Gerallt Owen: Editorial Match programme Port v Port Talbot)
Result: Port 1 Holywell 2

Ail-drefnu gemau / Fixture changes

Yn dilyn y cyhoeddiad y bydd gem Rhyl - TNS yn cael ei chwarae ar 11eg Ebrill, fe fydd newidiadau i gemau Port. Ar ddydd Llun y Pasg (12/04/04) fe fydd Port yn ymweld a Aberystwyth - ni fydd gem ar Sadwrn 27/03/04. Ar ddydd Sadwrn olaf y tymor (01/05/04) fe fydd Port gartref yn erbyn Rhyl - mae'n bosib y bydd y gem yma'n penderfynu pwy fydd yn ennill y gynghrair.

Following the announcment that Rhyl will play TNS on the 11th April, there shall be changes to Port's fixture list. On Easter Monday (12/04/04) Port will visit Aberystwyth - there will not be a game on Saturday 27/03/03. On the last Saturday of the season (01/05/04) Port will be at home against Rhyl - this might be the league title decider.

Gem Rhyl yn y fantol / Rhyl game in doubt

Mae'n bosib na fydd gem gartref Port yn erbyn Rhyl ar Lun y Pasg (12/04/04) yn digwydd. Cyhoeddodd y BBC y bydd gem Rhyl v TNS yn cael ei dangos yn fyw ar y teledu ar y dydd Sul (11/04/04).

It is possible that Port's home game against Rhyl on Easter Monday (12/04/04) will not take place. The BBC have anounced that Rhyl's game against TNS will be screened lived on Sunday (11/04/04).

Tîm yr Wythnos Carling / Carling Team of the Week

Port enillodd wobr tîm yr wythnos yn y Wales on Sunday yr wythnos hon (29 Chwef.) yn dilyn dwy fuddugoliaethau yn erbyn y Drenewydd a Derwyddon Cefn. Mae’r Port wedi ennill gwobr tîm y mis ar ddau achlysur eleni. Mae’r WoS yn dweud:
"Daeth Port, sydd heb gael tymor gwych ers dychwelyd i’r Uwch Gynghrair, yn ôl mewn steil i drechu Newi Derwyddon Cefn. Sgoriwyd tair gôl yn y 23 munud olaf a bellach maent yn benderfynol i esgyn i safle parchus yn y tabl."
Mae "heb gael tymor gwych" yn swnio braidd yn annheg i mi. Mae sylwadau Viv yn y Western Mail yn llawer agosach at daro deuddeg. Mae’r papur yn dweud ‘Ar ddechrau’r tymor fe osododd y rheolwr Viv Williams darged o 10 buddugoliaeth yn y gynghrair er mwyn sicrhau eu lle am dymor arall. Maent wedi taro’r nod hwnnw yn dilyn dwy fuddugoliaeth yr wythnos hon, ac mae rheolwr y tîm cartref wrth ei fodd. “Rydym wedi cyrraedd y nod ac mae nifer o gemau i’w chwarae” dywedodd Williams.
"Doedden ni ddim ar ein gorau yn erbyn Cefn, ond roddan ni’n haeddu ychydig o lwc."’

Port have been named team of the week in this week's Wales on Sunday (Feb. 29th) following victories over Newtown and Cefn Druids. This follows being named Team of the Month on two occasions this season. The WoS says:
"Porthmadog who, despite not having the best of seasons back in the Premier League, came from behind in splendid style to defeat Newi Cefn Druids. They scored all three goals in the last 23 mins and now seem determined to climb towards a respectable place in the table."
"Despite not having the best of seasons" seems to be faint praise indeed. Viv in his comments in the Western Mail is far nearer the truth. The paper says ‘At the start of the season, manager Viv Williams set his side a target of 10 league wins to ensure safety. Two victories this week have achieved that magic figure, leaving the hosts' boss delighted. "We've got there with several matches to spare, Williams said.
"We were not at our best against Druids, but we deserved a bit of good fortune."’

Croeso coch / Red return

Dychwelodd Alan Morgan, a ymddangosodd chwe gwaith i Port ar ddechrau’r tymor, i’r Traeth ddydd Sadwrn yn lliwiau Derwyddon Cefn. Nid oedd hon yn daith hapus i Morgan oedd yn arfer bod yn chwaraewr proffesiynol gyda Tranmere. Fe gollodd ei glwb newydd, ac fe gafodd ei ddanfon am gawod cynnar ar ôl 15 munud o’r ail hanner. Derbyniodd Morgan gerdyn coch am daro Gareth Caughter yn ei wyneb gyda’i benelin.

Alan Morgan who made six appearances for Port at the start of the seasons returned to the Traeth on Saturday in the colours of Cefn Druids. It was not the happiest of returns for the former Tranmere professional as, not only did his new club suffer defeat, but he received his marching orders 15 mins into the second-half. Morgan received a straight red card for elbowing Gareth Caughter in the face.

Da iawn Bob / Congratulations Bob

Mae Bob Havelock a’i dîm o wirfoddolwyr yn haeddu llawer o ganmoliaeth am sicrhau bod y cae’n barod am y gêm yn erbyn Derwyddon Cefn. Roedd yn rhaid dechrau clirio’r eira o’r cae am 7.30 a.m. er mwyn gwneud yn siŵr bod y cae’n barod am archwiliad y dyfarnwr. Yn wir cafodd y gêm ei chwarae ar gae oedd mewn cyflwr gwych o ystyried tywydd drwg yr wythnos. Fe dalodd yr ymdrech ar ei ganfed wedi i’r tîm frwydro i gipio’r tri phwynt. Er nad oedd yn gallu aros i edrych ar y gêm roedd yn dda gweld Bob ar y Traeth yn gwerthu’r raffl unwaith eto.

Bob Haverlock and his team of volunteers deserve the highest praise for their endeavours ensuring that the ground was ready for the clash with Cefn Druids. The 7.30 am start made it possible to clear the snow from the pitch in time for it to pass the referee's inspection. In fact the game was played on a surprisingly good surface considering the bad weather during the week. Gaining three points after some huffing and puffing made it all worthwhile. Though he was not able to watch the game it was good also to see Bob back at his raffle stall once more.

Newidiadau i'r rhestr gemau / Change of Fixtures

Bydd Port yn teithio lawr i Hwlffordd bnawn Sadwrn nesaf yn dilyn newidiad yn nhrefn y gamau. Bydd y newid yn caniatáu iddynt adrefnu'r gem yn erbyn Cwmbran i bnawn Sadwrn Mawrth 13. Bydd y gem gartref yn erbyn Drenewydd, a gafodd ei ohirio yn gynharach yn y tymor, yn cael ei chwarae nos Fawrth, Chwefror 24.

Port will travel to Haverfordwest next Saturday afternoon following a change of fixtures. This change will allow Port to reschedule the match against Cwmbran for Saturday March 13. The home game against Newtown, which was postponed earlier in the season, will be played on Tuesday night, February 24.

Iechyd Da! / Cheers!

Mae Port wedi gwneud hi am yr eilwaith. Nhw sydd wedi ennill gwobr tim y mis Carling yn y 'Wales on Sunday' ar gyfer Ionawr. Dywed y papur : 'Porthmadog ydy'r newydd-ddyfodiaid i Uwch-Gyngrhair Cymru ac maent yn gweithio'n galed i gadarnhau ei lle. Yn y math yma o amgylchiadau, nid ymweliad gan glwb sydd yn gobeithio ennill teitl yr Uwch Gyngrhair a lle yng Nghyngrhair y Pencampwyr yw'r newyddion gorau. Ond cafwyd perfformiad cadarn a wnaeth sicrhau canlyniad cyfartal 1-1 adre yn erbyn TNS. Bu rhaid brwydro yn ol er mwyn sicrhau y pwynt gwerthfawr. Perfformiad a oedd yn haeddu gwobr Tim y mis Carling.'
Yn ogystal, yn ystod y mis, fe sicrhawyd buddugoliaethau yn erbyn Afan Lido a'r Trallwng. Does dim angen son am y canlyniad yng Nghaerfyrddin! Enillodd Port wobr Carling ym mis Tachwedd hefyd.
Arbennig hogiau. Cymrwch ofal efo'r caniau!

Port have done it for the second time. They have been named, Wales on Sunday's, Carling team of the month for January. The paper says: 'Porthmadog are this season's Welsh Premier newcomers and are working hard to consolidate their place. In such circumstances, the visit of a side chasing the Premier title and a place in the Champion's League is not quite what the doctor ordered.
But a gritty performance, gave them a 1-1 draw at home to TNS. They also had to do it the hard way, coming from behind to snatch a precious point in a 1-1 draw. A worthy display to take our Carling Team of the Month award.'
In addition, during the month they also gained victories against Afan Lido and Welshpool. We won't mention the result at Carmarthen!! Port previously won this award in November.
Fantastic lads. Take care with those cans!

Gem Ffwrdd / Game Off

Cafodd gêm Port yn erbyn Cwmbran ddydd Sadwrn ei gohirio. Roedd y tîm wedi dechrau ar ei taith lawr i’r de pan ddaeth yr alwad am tua 9 o’r gloch fod y gêm wedi cael ei galw i ffwrdd. Yn ffodus dim ond i Ddolgellau roedd y bws wedi cyrraedd erbyn hynny. Nid oes dyddiad arall wedi cael ei ddewis ar gyfer chwarae’r gêm.

Port’s game against Cwmbran on Saturday was cancelled. The team had started on their way down south when the call came at around 9 o’ clock to say the game had been called off. Fortunately the bus had only reached Dolgellau by that time. No date has been set at the moment for the rescheduled match.

Penblwydd Hapus / Happy Birthday

Llongyfarchiadau a phenblwydd hapus i Viv sydd wedi cyrraedd y pedwardeg!! Pa ffordd well i ddathlu na thrwy roi perfformiad gwych yn erbyn TNS ar y Traeth ddydd Sadwrn. Ni fedrai'r chwaraewyr fod wedi rhoi gwell anrheg i'w rheolwr na hyn. Yn wir, maent wedi rhoi cant y cant iddo drwy'r tymor. Ymlaen at yr hanner cant Viv, -byddwn yn siwr o fod wedi ennill y gyngrhair erbyn hynny!

Happy birthday and congratulations Viv on reaching the big 40!! What better way could there be to celebrate than by giving an outstanding performance against TNS on the Traeth last Saturday. The players could not possibly have given their manager a better present than this.Indeed they have given him a 100% effort throughout the season. Forward to the half century Viv and by then we shall surely have been crowned champions of Wales!

Graham Austin

Yn ystod yr wythnos, arwyddwyd Graham Austin o glwb Rhyl. Methwyd ei arwyddo ar ddechrau'r tymor ond, yn ddiweddar, mae wedi bod yn chwarae i Langefni fel ail glwb. Mae Graham hefyd wedi cynrychioli Bae Cemaes. Dywedodd Viv yn y rhaglen ei fod wedi arwyddo Graham Austin er mwyn cryfhau'r garfan a hefyd cynyddu ei opsiynau pan fyddai'r angen yn codi.

During the past week Port have signed Graham Austin from Rhyl. They failed to secure his signature at the start of the season but he has recently been playing for Llangefni under the second club rule. Graham has also represented Cemaes Bay. Viv said in the programme notes, 'I have recruited Graham Austin from Rhyl to strengthen the squad and give myself more options should the need arise'.

Tim Ysgolion Cymru / Welsh Schools team

Llongyfarchiadau i ddau o chwaraewyr ifanc a thalentog y clwb sydd wedi ennill eu lle yng ngharfan ymarfer ysgolion Cymru (dan 18 oed). Ymddangosodd Tom Hughes a John Peris Jones mewn treialon cenedlaethol yn Aberystwyth a wedyn cawsant eu dewis i fod yn rhan o'r garfan o 26 chwaraewr. Mewn mis, byddant yn cymryd rhan mewn penwythnos ymarfer pan fydd y garfan yn cael ei chwtogi i'r 18 terfynnol. Mae'r ddau ond yn 17 oed ac felly byddant yn dal o fewn yr oed i gael cyfle arall y flwyddyn nesaf. Pob hwyl i'r hogiau, gan obeithio y bydd y ddau yn gwisgo crys Cymru yn ddiweddarach yn y tymor.

Two of the talented youngsters in the reserves have received national recognition by winning a place in the Wales Schools (under 18) training squad. Tom Hughes and John Peris Jones were both successful at the national trials in Aberystwyth last Sunday. Both will now take part in the two-day training weekend next month, when the 26 players chosen will be whittled down to a final squad of 18. Both lads are only 17, and potentially could also be eligible next season as well. Best of luck to both of them and let's hope that we shall have two players representing Wales later in the season.

Ryan Davies

Croes nôl i’r Traeth i Ryan Davies a chwaraeodd yma am haner tymor tua tair blynedd yn ôl. Arwyddwyd yr amddiffynnwr canol o’r clwb Cymru Alliance, Glantraeth. Cafodd gêm gyntaf lwyddiannus iawn yn erbyn Afan Lido bnawn Sadwrn. Roedd angen cryfhau’r garfan oherwydd anafiadau i Danny Hughes ac hefyd Emyr Williams. Torrodd Danny Hughes asgwrn yn ei droed yn ystod y gêm yn erbyn Cei Conna, ond aeth ymlaen i chwarae yn erbyn Rhyl heb sylweddoli ei fod yr anaf mor ddifrifol. Nid oes disgwyl iddo chwarae eto am ychydig wythnosau. Mae disgwyl i Emrys fynd i weld arbenigwr yr wythnos nesaf.

A warm welcome back to the Traeth for Ryan Davies who played here for half a term about three years ago. The central defender was signed from Cymru Alliance side, Glantraeth. He made a very successful debut against Afan Lido on Saturday afternoon. The squad needed to be strengthened because of injuries to Danny Hughes and Emrys Williams. Danny Hughes broke a bone in his foot during the game against Connah’s Quay, but went on to play against Rhyl without realising the seriousness of the injury. He is expected to be sidelined for a few weeks. It is expected that Emrys will see a specialist next week.

Chwarae Teg / Fair Play

Gyda hanner gemau’r tymor wedi’u chwarae, Port, ar hyn o bryd, sydd ar frig cynghrair Chwarae Teg Uwch Gynghrair Cymru. Dim ond 13 o’n chwaraewyr sydd wedi derbyn cardiau melyn mewn gemau cynghrair, a nid oes unrhyw chwaraewr wedi derbyn y garden goch – record arbennig iawn sy’n glod mawr i’r chwaraewyr a staff hyfforddi’r clwb. Ar y llaw arall, ein gwrthwynebwyr bnawn Sadwrn, Afan Lido, sydd ar waelod y gynghrair Chwarae Teg gyda 33 o gardiau melyn a 4 carden goch, ond Caerfyrddin ein gwrthwynebwyr diwethaf oedd a’r ymddygiad gwaethaf o ran chwaraewyr yn cael eu danfon o’r cae, gyda chwech o’u chwaraewyr wedi’u gyrru am gawod cynnar.

At the season’s half way stage, Porthmadog currently lie at the top of the Fair Play league in the Welsh Premier. We have only received 13 bookings in League matches and there have been no red cards – a truly excellent record which brings great credit to the players and coaching staff at the club. On the other hand, our opponents on Saturday, Afan Lido, are at the bottom of the Fair Play table with 33 bookings and 4 red cards, but our last opponents, Carmarthen, are the worst culprits as far as dismissals are concerned with six players already having taken an early bath this season.

Academi'n Llwyddiant / Academy a Success

Ymwelodd Rob Sherman o ymddiriedolaeth y Gymdeithas Bel droed ag Academi Port yn ddiweddar, ac roedd yn hapus iawn gyda datblygiad yr Academi mewn amser mor fyr. Sefydlwyd yr academi saith wythnos yn ôl ac mae llawer o'r hogiau wedi gwneud argraff ers hynny. Os oes unrhyw un a diddordeb mewn ymuno â'r academi dylent ddod lawr i'r traeth ddydd Llun, Ionawr 12. Bydd bob chwaraewr newydd yn cael 6 wythnos i brofi ei hun.

Port's academy was visited recently by Rob Sherman of the FA of Wales trust, and he was pleased with the development of the academy in such a short time. The academy was only set up seven weeks ago and many players have shown great promise since then. Anyone interested in joining should get down to the Traeth on Monday, January 12. Every player will be given 6 weeks to prove himself.

Gerard McGuigan

Mae Viv yn gobeithio bydd y golwr, Gerard McGuigan, yn holliach ar gyfer gem Port yn erbyn Cei Conna bnawn Sadwrn. Cafodd Ged driniaeth ar ei ben glin wythnos diwethaf, ond mae'n ffyddiog bydd yn ffit ar gyfer y gem.

Viv is hoping that goalkeeper, Gerard McGuigan, will be available for Port's game against Connah's Quay on Saturday afternoon. Ged had an opperationon on his knee last week, but is optimistic he will be fit enough to play.

Iechyd Da! / Cheers!

Llongyfarchiadau i Viv a'r hogia ar ennill gwobr Tim y Mis Carling ar gyfer mis Tachwedd. Cipiodd yr hogia y wobr ar ol enill tair gem yn olynol ac adenill chydig o lwyddiant gemau cyntaf y tymor. Y wobr yw llwyth o ganiau Carling - gobeithio neith yr hogia ddim mynd dros ben llestri.

Congratulations to Viv and the lads on winning the Carling Team of the Month award for November. The lads picked up the award after winning three consecutive matches and recreating some of the success of the early part of the season. The prize is a load of Carling cans - let's hope the lads don't go over the top!

Calendr / Calender.

Cyhoeddodd Clwb Pel-droed Porthmadog ei drydydd calendr yn olynol yr wythnos hon. Y tro hwn yn hytrach na darluniau hen dimau y dref, canolbwyntir ar hanes Porthmadog drwy luniau o’r bedwaredd ganrif ar bymtheg a’r ugeinfed ganrif. Yn ol Gerallt Owen, Ysgrifenydd y Clwb, "ein bwriad oedd ehangu ei apel, heblaw y ffaith ein bod wedi dechrau rhedeg allan o luniau hen dimau y clwb, felly penderfynwyd paratoi calandr oedd yn canolbwyntio ar hanes y dref".
Bu calendr eleni, yn ogystal a’r gwreiddiol a gyhoeddwyd yn 2002, yn lwyddiant mawr gyda gwerthiant o dros 600 yr un. "Bu galw amdanynt dros ardal eang" meddai Gerallt Owen "ac gwyddom fod amryw wedi eu gyrru dramor i deulu neu hen gyfeillion."
Mae’r calendr ar gael am £2.99 o Siop Eifionydd a Siop Pike yn Porthmadog neu drwy ffonio Gerallt Owen ar 01766 512991 neu Phil Jones ar 01766 514343.

Porthmadog Football Club has published it’s third consecutive calender this week. However where as the two previous ones for 2002 and 2003 which sold over 600 copies each featured Porthmadog teams from bygone days the 2004 calender concentrates on the history of the town through pictures going back to the nineteenth and twentieth century. According to Club Secretary Gerallt Owen "our aim was to extend it’s appeal, but we were also starting to run out of pictures of old teams. Therefore the theme is a history of Porthmadog through a number of interesting photographs".
"The demand for the earlier editions was phenomenal and from a wide area", added Owen, "and we know for a fact that many people sent them overseas to family and long lost friends".
The Calender is available at £2.99 from Siop Eifionydd and Pikes Newsagents or by phoning Gerallt Owen on 01766 512991 or Phil Jones on 01766 514343.

Tîm Ieuenctid / Youth Team.

Mae llwyddiant y tîm ieuenctid yn parhau. Maent wedi gyrraedd rownd 3 o'r Cwpan Ieuenctid, lle byddant yn herio Caersws ar Ionawr 31, ond maent yn awyddus i aildrefnu'r gêm ar gyfer canol wythnos.

The success of the youth team continues. They have reached the third round of the Youth Cup where they will meet Caersws on January 31, but are keen to rearrange the game to a mid week date.

Port yn ennill profiad / Port gain experience.

Yn ôl Viv Williams mae carfan ifanc Port yn cryfhau wrth gael mwy o brofiad ar lefel uwch. Dywedodd yn y Western Mail ar ôl y fuddugoliaeth yn erbyn Caernarfon: "Roedd hon yn fuddugoliaeth dda i ni, ac mae’r hogia ifanc yn cryfhau wrth gael profiad. Ar ddechrau’r tymor o’n i’n teimlo bod angen ennill 10 gêm i fod yn saff, a hon oedd rhif 6. Mae pethau’n dechrau digwydd yn araf bach wrth i ni sgorio goliau yn rheolaidd."

According to Viv Williams, Port’s young squad is getting stronger as it gains experience on a higher level. He told the Western Mail following the victory against Caernarfon: "This was a great win for us and the youngsters are getting stronger with experience. I targeted 10 wins for safety at the start of the season, and this was No 6. It’s happening for us gradually and we’re now scoring goals regularly."

Bob Havelock

Hoffai'r clwb ddymuno gwellhad buan i'r cyn-gadeirydd Bob Havelock, sydd wedi cael triniaeth fawr yn ddiweddar.

The club would like to wish the ex-chairman Bob Havelock a speedy recovery, after a recent major operation.
