Port v Mostyn - 09/09/98

Four games without defeat, is better than we could have hoped for. given our last minute introduction to the League, and a heavy fixture list against some of the top sides in the Cymru Alliance. Add to this a big injury list and suspensions hung over from last season and you can see that the scenario did not look good but credit to the lads who have dug in and earned a creditable eight points from four outings, but I am honest enough to admit that we have experienced a combination of good play, resolute defending and good luck so I'm not about to get carried away, we have given ourselves the chance of a good season but that all.

A good start and winning promotion are poles apart, it is important to keep our feet firmly on the ground, keeping the team working hard for each other, taking each game as it comes and playing each match on its merits.

Last Tuesday night we played at Glantraeth and despite winning and gaining three valuable points there was also another excellent performance by the referee, who produced no yellow cards. I can't remember the last time we featured in a match when nobody from either side gut a card, well done ref and well done both teams.

Tonight should see the home debut of our new signing Paul Roberts who will need no introduction to the Traeth faithful, welcome home Paul I hope your stay is a long and fruitful one for you and the club.

Tonight's visitors will receive our utmost respect, their manager Mark Speakman has done an excellent job over the years on little or no resources in maintaining them in this level of the Welsh pyramid. With Mark at the helm you can always expect a hell of a battle though their early season form has not been good, don't write them off yet. That will be the warning to our players in the home dressing room tonight.

As you may now have read in the press I have been charged by the FAW for remarks made in this column on the opening day of the season which were then repeated in the Western Mail. Having re-read the notes so that I could prepare my defence 1 can again repeat my comments Why is the pyramid structure a shambles with an odd amount of teams in each league, what is the use of a liaison committee flee if they do not liaise and address the problems i.e. equal amount of clubs in each league and the big question, who extended the deadline for Ebbw Vale to conform to League rules, why were they not expelled at the AGM to take Port's place as League rules state, why were they allowed to compete in Europe after the FAW stated that competing clubs would have their affairs vetted before being allowed to compete. The answer is obvious the governing body are not governing properly. They can't hang me for stating the obvious or can they?!

Enjoy the match and thanks for your support. it's much appreciated.
