Tymor o addewid heb ei gyflawni?
The nearly season

Saesneg / English

Tymor ddigon rhyfedd fu 2006-07 ar lawer ystyr. Os gwnewch ystyried perfformiadau yn y Gynghrair yn unig, fe ddewch ir canlyniad mai tymor siomedig oedd hwn, wrth i Port orffen yn 11eg yn y tabl am y trydydd tro ers dychwelyd i UGC. Dechreuodd y tymor yn llawn optimistiaeth gyda buddugoliaeth dros Y Trallwng, clwb a orffennodd un lle yn unig tu allan ir safleoedd a fyddain sicrhau lle yn Ewrop. Yn y diwedd, bu llawer gormod o gmau cyfartal a dim ond wyth buddugoliaeth yn y gynghrair a olygodd fod yr optimistiaeth wedi hen ddiflannu cyn i fis olaf y tymor gyrraedd.

Ir gwrthwyneb oedd y gmau cwpan, gyda lle yn y pedwar olaf yng Nghwpan y Gynghrair, yn dilyn perfformiadau da ar ddechraur tymor. Dilynwyd hyn gyda sicrhau lle yn wyth olaf Cwpan Cymru a hefyd Cwpan Cenedlaethol y BBC. Ond maer ffeithiau moel yma yn cuddio perfformiadau gwirioneddol gofiadwy. Y perfformiad gorau or tymor efallai oedd yr un ar Y Dreflan yn erbyn Y Seintiau Newydd. Yma, diolch i berfformiad amddiffynnol arwrol wedi ei ysbrydoli gan y capten Ryan Davies, sicrhawyd buddugoliaeth haeddiannol gyda goliau arbennig gan Jason Sadler a Les Davies. Am gyffro, roedd dim yn debyg ir fuddugoliaeth yng Nghwpan Cymru, eto dros Y Seintiau Newydd, mewn cystadleuaeth ciciau or smotyn ddramatig gyda chameru Y Clwb Pl Droed yn bresennol. Cafodd selogion Y Traeth werth eu harian yng Nghwpan y BBC hefyd gyda buddugoliaeth ,diolch i gl hwyr Ryan Davies, dros Lanelli. Dylair gallu i sicrhau buddugoliaethau or math yma fod wedi arwain at safle llawer uwch yn y tabl, sefyllfa a oedd hefyd yn synnu Ken McKenna.

Beth aeth oi le yn y gynghrair? Diffyg goliau ydyr ateb amlwg ac ateb y mwyafrif or cefnogwyr gan nad oes modd gweld bai ar y pump yn y cefn a chwaraeodd mor gyson drwyr tymor. Mae hefyd y ffaith fod gymaint o berfformiadau da wedi gorffen mewn gmau cyfartal. Yn sicr, maer diffyg goliau yn broblem ond mae barn wahanol yn bosib hefyd.

O edrych ar y tabl terfynol, gwelwn mai dim ond 40 o goliau a sgoriwyd mewn 32 o gmau cyfanswm braidd yn dila yng ngolwg pawb. Ond edrychwch yn uwch yn y tabl a sylwch fod Port Talbot, y clwb a orffennodd 15 pwynt a pump safle yn uwch na Port, wedi sgorio ond DWY GL yn fwy! Rwan maer ystadegau yma yn awgrymu fod rheswm arall am y safle siomedig. Sn rydym am glwb wnaeth ennill ond un pwynt allan o chwech yn ein herbyn, a byddai neb yn awgrymu eu bod bump safle yn well. Tybed a ydy diffyg rheolaeth yng nghanol y cae a diffyg creu cyfleoedd clir hefyd yn achos dros y safle siomedig yn y tabl? Bu gwelliant ar l i Clayton Blackmore ymuno a hefyd ar l i Richard Hughes ymddangos yn fwy cyson yng nghanol y cae. Pan fod pethau ddim yn rhedeg yn hollol iawn cyn gwneud dim arall edrychwch i weld os oes angen olew ar y peiriant ganol cae.

Ar y cae, bu llawer o gyfnodau pleserus iawn yn ystod y tymor a, gan nad ydym yn glwb cyfoethog, rhaid cofio ein bod yn cystadlu gyda chlybiau sydd r modd i brynu llwyddiant yn y tymor byr o leiaf. Stori arall ydy hi oddi ar y cae a stori ydy honno sydd eto iw chwblhau!

The nearly season

The 2006-07 season was a strange one in many respects. If you confine yourself to looking at the League table then you have to describe the season as a disappointment with the club for the third time since their return to the WPL ending the season in 11th spot. The season started with much optimism with a victory over Welshpool the club who ended the season just outside the UEFA qualifying places but too many draws and only eight league victories meant that the optimism had dissipated long before the final month of the season.

In complete contrast was the form in cup competitions with a semi final place the reward for some excellent early season performances in the League Cup and this was followed by last eight appearances in the Welsh Cup and the Premier Cup. But even those bare facts conceal some memorable performances. The seasons best performance came in the League Cup tie at Treflan against TNS when, thanks to a superb defensive team performance, inspired by skipper Ryan Davies, they gained a well earned victory resulting from two magnificent strikes by Jason Sadler and Les Davies. For excitement, there was nothing to equal the Welsh Cup victory, again over TNS, in a dramatic penalty shoot out with Y Clwb Pl Droed cameras present. The Premier Cup also gave Traeth fans their moneys worth with the victory, thanks to Ryan Daviess late goal, over Llanelli. These magnificent victories over the leagues two professional clubs should have meant a far higher league finish and the fact that they didnt even baffled TNS manager Ken McKenna.

What went wrong in the league then? Most people would point to the goals for tally as being the most obvious reason as it is not possible to lay the blame on the back five who performed consistently throughout the season. There is also the fact that so many good performances only produced draws. The goals tally does give cause for concern but there is an alternative view. A look at the final table shows that we scored only 40 goals -a meagre return in 32 games most would say. Look further up the table to Port Talbot and you will notice that not only did that club finish 15 points and five places ahead of us but also scored ONLY TWO goals more! Now those statistics could suggest perhaps another reason for our disappointing league performance. We are comparing ourselves here with a club from whom we took four points this season and few would suggest that they should be five places above us in the table. Does the fact that we failed to control games from midfield and create enough clear chances also have something to do with this? The situation took a noticeable turn for the better towards the end of the season with the arrival of Clayton Blackmore and also perhaps resulting from the fact that Richard Hughes was a more regular presence in midfield. When things are not going entirely right for a club, it is wise to have a look at the engine room.

On the field, there have been some really enjoyable times this season and we have to consider that we are not a wealthy club yet have to compete with those who are in a position to buy success at least in the short run. Off the field is another story which still has some mileage left in it!
